Hi! I'll be taking my ds to DW in Sept. He's on a continuous feed with a Kangaroo Pet pump. At this time his battery charge lasts a maximum of 12 hours. But, we'll be leaving home no later than 5 in the afternoon and not able to check into our hotel (All Star Sports) until 3 the next afternoon. He can't tolerate bolus feeds as he has a jtube. Does anyone know if there is somewhere at airports where we'd be able to plug in the charger while we wait? We're flying from SEATAC (Seattle). The friend that is traveling with us has a power inverter that should work in our van so that will buy us some time as it's a 3 hr drive to the airport. But it won't hold until we get to our room. We're doing an overnight flight and will get to the hotel mid morning of our first day but I've been told we can't check in until 3. Will there be somewhere at the hotel in the lobby or somewhere that we can plug the charger in? We'd have to have it somewhere so that my ds can stay hooked up to it.

Thanks,

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

Every airport I have ever been in it is fairly easy to find outlets in the boarding areas. This is getting more and more common as people travel with laptops. I have even noticed some airports are putting up posts marked as "charging stations" in the gate seating areas.

You might also want to check with your airline's "special services" desk about the possibility of electrical access on the flight itself.

As far as the Disney resorts I would suggest contacting the "rooms assigner" at your resort about four or five days prior to arrival and explain the situation. Very possibly you can get into your room much earlier than 3:00, a lot depends on the status of the room (occupied or not) the night before. Also, I have always seen outlets available in the lobbies.

You can also get a spare battery pack from your medical vendor. I have backup batteries for all my equipment since I don't want to worry about the possibility of needing to replace something while away from home. Since airlines don't charge extra for medical equipment and the battery pack isn't large, that might help too vs. worrying all day about how long the battery will last.---Kathy

Thanks,

We have checked into our All Star room before 3pm before. It just depends on if "your" room is available. I would definately have this noted in your reservation for the hotel. Also make sure you contact the airline and talk to them about it. Some airports have outlets everywhere, but some have very few and those are usually taken by laptops. Most however now have some sort of business center with outlets. We traveled with a pump, but just for overnight feeds. I think the extra battery is a great idea!

Thanks for the suggestion. But, I'm in Canada and in our province any ways there's no such thing as an extra anything-even with monthly supplies. We have to wait until the pump is only holding a charge for a few hours before we can get even a replacement battery. It doesn't make sense but that's they way things are here.
