Hello! DH, DD8 and myself will be taking our 5th (yay!) WDW trip in February. This time, my dad will be going with us. We're very excited to have him along, but I'm a little concerned about his diet. I think he will be ok with the regular food, there are always things that he can order that will be ok for his diet. But I'm worried about all the DESSERTS. Do WDW restaurants have an "unpublished" selection of any sugar-free desserts? I hate for him to feel left out if the rest of us are eating dessert and there aren't any options for him. One thing I thought about is that we can share with him if there's something he wants to try - not that he can do that all the time, but for him small quantities would be ok.

THanks all!

Most every place (TS) we have ever eaten has some type of "sugar free" or "no sugar added" item on the menu or buffet. As for counter service, some do, some don't.
Hope that gives you some relief.

I'm a type-I and I have never had a problem with WDW restaurants and having good options.

The PP is correct, all TS offer one NSA dessert option, whether it is artificially sweetened (cakes, pies, ice cream, etc) or just fruit-heavy (i.e., bowl of berries with a sorbet made from very concentrated fruit juice).

All CS locations offer an option too, although many of those options are less dessert-like - yogurt, for example, or a piece of fruit. Almost all CS will also allow a bottle of water as a dessert option - the rest of you could take yours 'to go', head over to the nearest bakery/snack stand to get dad's, and use his water 'dessert' to wash them down...

I do this a lot, give my 'regular' CS dessert (they are almost always prepackaged) to my travelmate and use one of 'his'/'her' snack credits to get myself something I actually like.

Another thing to consider is that sometimes after walking around all day, dad may actually need a regular dessert - or may choose to have a salad or something low-carb in order to allow himself to have one.

as previous posters have noted, there are quite a few sugar free options out there. You might also consider calling and having your ressies updated to reflect that a member of your party has a dietary restriction. The chefs and staff are excellent about helping accomodate limitations.
