Traveling with a baby

What airline was this? Do you know that using a child carrier such as a Baby Bjorn is PROHIBITED by the FAA during take off and landing. Shame on your flight attendants for permitting you to do so (I'm sure you didn't know this wasn't allowed).

Wow! No I didn't know this! Thank you. We flew Allegiant and Jet blue. In fact the only concern they had was that my seat belt was on under the carrier. Good to know. Thankfully we're driving now and if we do fly he'll be 2!

I've flown numerous times with my children before they were 2 as lap children and never had an issue. Airline tickets are expensive! Um, and I've never heard of the airlines telling you to place your baby on the floor, and I've hit turbulence twice when my kids were on my lap. So I say if you're comfortable with it, don't buy an extra seat.

As a flight attendant I can confirm that this information is NOT correct. During an emergency we instruct you to hold your lap child tummy to tummy to offer some protection

Oops sorry replied on wrong posting....point is BABIES SHOULD NEVER BE PLACED ON FLOOR!

Hey don't blame the flight attendants!!!!!!!...I cant tell you the number of times I have asked people to follow this rule and I walk back five rows and the parent puts the kid back in the carrier. We can only tell you to do something so many times...after going back and telling you again, for my safety I have to be back at my jumpseat for landing. There is a reason for the rules and a reason we enforce it (we aren't power control witches...believe me my job would be so much easier if I didn't have to enforce any rules) Bjorns/ergos etc are prohibited for takeoff because your child will have a better chance of survival without it (per faa crash testing) Apart from the possibility of it being crushed by the force of your body (with nowhere to move to) if you are incapacitated or worse any passenger or crew does not have the time to untangle your surviving baby from you and the bjorn (easier for a passenger to just grab the baby as they run past you).....we have seconds to get everybody out of the plane in a serious crash. Whilst Im on my rant......please do not allow your child to sleep on the floor at your row with its head stuck out into the aisle especially on a night flight when we are going by with our carts, please also don't argue with us when during turbulence we ask ou to get your child off the floor and into a seat belt (especially since you are wearing yours) Thanks for allowing me to vent :)

Thanks for the thoughts. My daughter decided she could never live with herself if something happened to her baby because she was trying to save a few dollars. I also purchased ECBI for all of us since I actually was not able to purchase it for some and not all.

I completely understand this; I have seen PAX disregard instructions from FAs many, many times and I can imagine it must drive you all insane. However, passenger safety is the responsibility of the airline crew and if a PAX is ignoring safety procedures, then they need to do something.

If its during flight we do as much as we possibly can but at some point we run out of options especially if we are coming in to land and we need to get strapped in (we have to be safe so we can initiate an evacuation if needs be) Plus if its before take off and we try and enforce the rules we are splashed all over the internet and called mean flight attendants :)
