traveling with a 3 year old

Hi all We are leaving in a little over a month. This will be my son's 2nd time going. the first time he was 1/12 year s old and I had so much stuff for him and used it all
I had to pack diapers, spill proof cups, his own utensils, and blah blah blah for a baby.
Now he's potty trained, I don't need as many outfits but I will pack some extra not as much as last time, eats and drink out of regular size cups, (but I bought the ones from fisherprice the kept or toss cups this way his doesn't spill anything),
I packed a backpack with cars, crayons, coloring pages/books, some buzz & power ranger stuff (his favorites).
I also will bring his favorite blanket (he is linus lol).
His favorite night time book. I'm gonna bring some snacks I know he/I love and Disney doesn't have.
Just wondering what else I should bring. You have to know he is the only child and gets everything he points at in Disney/anywhere for that matter. So toys aren't the problem we will just buy so we don't need to pack that many just his favorites. When hubbys around the kid gets everything when it's my pockets he's dipping in he's on a major budget. I rather spend hubby's money then my own lol

Anyways, I'm already packed and just making sure I have everything.
last year I forgot MY bathingsuit and had to buy one in Disney for $80.00 (that will never happen again lol. Do you believe that was the only thing I forgot. I made a list this time lol getting smarter as the years go bye lol

Sounds like your all set. We went this year for the first time and my son was 2 1/2. Were hoping to go again in Feb 2005 he will be 3 then also like your son. How about a stroller? I know ours came in handy this year. Stuffed animal and the rest I think you have in the bag

we are bringing the stroller but its gonna stay in the room only gonna use it at the marketplace and downtown disney we are gonna rent a stroller from the park. I say we use ours at the park to lol but hubby doesn't want to carry it and our packages on the bus every night. my mom will have a one of those electric wheelchair thingys we figured we'd take enough room up with that everyday. We are going back in March (i hope April).

Things I forgot think about are: Bandaids, tylenol or motrin, ect. Incase of blisters, headaches, fevers, coughs and such. I will never forget these again!

Last time we went my grandson who was 4 woke up crying about 11pm stating he had a terrible headach. We had to go on a hike up to the front desk to get something. By the time I got back he had fallen asleep.

Also another thing I take with me weather with kids or by myself is a nightlight for the bathroom. I hate being in an unfamiliar place in total darkness. It's nice too when you don't have to turn on the bright light when you just need to use the rest room at night.

Hi there my family and i are also off to disney soon and we have a 2 year old daughter and a 3 year old boy who is getting very excited, after reading your post you have giving me a few ideas as what to take to keep our kids happy especially on our flight over as it's about 8 to 9 hours. I also noticed that you are on holiday at the same sort of time as us where about are you staying while there.

Let's see.....I am thinking about what I have packed for our 2 1/2 year old. Don't forget swim diapers for the pool. I found a travel size of Children's Motrin, which is great! If your son likes trains, I highly reccomend the "Bring Along Thomas". It's a travel sized Thomas train that winds up and goes around a folding track. Our Toys R Us has them for $9.99. They fit very easily into a bag, or backpack. We are bringing a travel size bubble bath from Johnson and Johnson, although I have used the cloths with the soap in them in the past. They are sooo easy to fit in your bag! My son is a fanatic for milk first thing in the morning, so I am shipping ahead some Parmalat boxes of milk. They don't have to be refrigerated, and that way we don't have to make a run down to the restaurants first thing. Small bubbles are also great for the lines. Finally, the Crayola Wonder markers, that only write on the special Wonder paper, are great for the flight!

We always carry a travel first aid kit it is always in the suitcase has the bandaids, alcohol rubbies (mom takes needles just incase she's with us we have her covered to lol), asprin, tylenol (kids and adults) and every other thing you need for a frist aid kit even a mini flashlight.
Every year i check the expiration date and if anything is over I replace it before trip.

but the nightlight is a good idea for me to use once my son is sleeping he's down for the night lo (lucky him

Don't need swimmers anymore thank god.lol We have a pool and every time he needs to use the potty he lets me know so that's good for that.
He likes Thomas but Buzz and rangers are the thing now so poor thomas got kicked to the crub lol
He only drinks water and milk. We rented a refidge I'm gonna by some milk for the store and that should cover him for the mornings.

Got the Wonders to I love them those are our waiting at the airport project. This way I don't have to worry about him writing on anyone lol

BUT Bubble now that's an idea I didn't htink of. Have you used them in Disney has anyone ever complained about you getting them soapy? Well, I'm off to throw some bubbles in a ziplock and pack them up. Thanks for the idea. And don't worry I also babble lol

I posted this suggestion somewhere else, but it bears repeating: Is your son afraid of auto-flush toilets? Pack some post-it notes to cover the sensor so he can potty with out fear. My 3 yr old had a major melt down every time we couldn't find manual flush toilets in the parks. Our next trip I am bringing the post-its! Your child can remove it himself if he wants, and that'll (hopefully) eventually transition into no fear of the noise. Most kids don't like the unexpected whoosh - sometimes when they're still on the toilet!

Oh my goodness, I forgot about the incident with the automatic tolit flush at the doctors office. My grandson need to use the tolit so I took him to the restroom. He was 2 years old. While he was still sitting on the tolit he leaned forward and the tolit flushed. He flew off the tolit screaming and crying. He just kept saying "it scared me" over and over again. He was shaking he was so scared. The thought of covering the sensor never occured to me. Thanks for the tip.

When we went this past May, the rental strollers were available at the Marketplace Guest Relations with additional $20 deposit. Having said that, bring the stroller anyway; you never know when you might need it.

I'd use your own stroller in the park. It's much more comfy and you'll have it to and from transportation. It's great to be able to put your stuff in too and just to have a cup holder. We found the rental stroller was more likely to "disappear" than our own expensive stroller--though don't keep valuables in it unattended. You can always park your own stroller somewhere in the park and go back and get it later.

Another big help for us--small bottles of bubbles to entertain while in line, along with fruit snacks. If you buy some souveniers, hold at least a couple of them back to play with while waiting in the airport. We bought the Disney potato head set at Epcot, also available in DTD, and it entertained our kids for 3 hours while we waited for our late plane.

You don't have to carry your packages if you are staying on-site. Any place in WDW will ship your purchases back to your resort for you!

Mrs Toaster --- Thanks for the "Bring Along Thomas" suggestion. I just got back from Toys R Us and I am thrilled with it... and the price is right ($9.99). I am going to put it away and surprise my DS with it once the plane takes off. I am sure it will be a hit. It is so compact and will be perfect for dinners out too! Thanks Again!!!
