Traveling Turkeys Part 2 11/22/08

That would be the coolest thing!

We have one bag packed with costumes, diapers, and other stuff we won't use between now and then.

Anyone else planning to do the beer tasting? My DH is doing it, but my friends husband is not a drinker at all. I just wanted to see if anyone else from here would be there.

You can count on at least one from our party being there. Probably 4 of us. It all depends on when it is. Anybody know when they normally do this?

Need GC help.

We decided not to book an excursion thru DCL. But we want to go to the Turtle Farm. 1/2 the cost to do it on our own.

My question is: it is $55/person for the whole park vs $25 for the turtle part of it. Really wasn't worried about the swimming/snorkeling, but would have liked to see the sharks, mangroves and rest of park. Is it really worth the extra, or is the turtle part enough. Does anyone know if htey have a price if you do not want to get wet?

Lora

That one is personal choice, but I would suggest the Turtle part is sufficient...that said we also live in Florida where we can swim or go to the beach anytime we choose...but, last year, we did turtles/Hell/Stingray City on one combined tour lasting about 4 hours and it was plenty, though very nice except for Hell, which really is a waste of time.

I was thinking of doing the beer tasting again. Dh isn't into the beer thing. I'm trying to talk my MIL to doing it with me as we speak.

For us though, we will probably just do some shopping and lunch at GC this time...Lisa loves to check out the Kirk Freeport outlet store, which is entirely a hit or miss place, located a couple blocks to the left of the tender dock as you face the island. She got a very nice ring for a good price there a couple years ago.

For Cozumel, we are taking DS to the miniature golf course located about 2-3 blocks inland from the big flag at the ferry dock (about 6 blocks left of where we dock) which is run by an American and which was a surprisingly good course.

Chuck:cool1:

And for my "vice", I will be off to Walmart or Best Buy about 11 tonight to get the expansion pack for World of Warcraft upon its Midnight release.

DH will definitely be doing the beer tasting. I will be doing all the other hard liquor tastings! Do they have a whiskey/bourbon tasting?
Ken - That pic is great! I would love to see a launch from the port!
Our GC excursion remains Margaritaville and shopping.

I'll be with you Judy, martinis and margaritas please! DH is studying up on his beer trivia so he can earn more. He managed to get a few extra beers last time by answering a few questions right.

I have no idea about whiskey/bourbon, but the tequila tasting has me intrigued. :teeth:

Is this doable: take a taxi to do just the turtle farm part then another taxi to 7 mile beach just to hang out for the day. Are the taxis readily available and on standby?

Or should we just stay all day at the turtle farm and snorkle and hang out there?

I know we don't have much time there so I don't want to spend it driving around in a taxi, but if the trip time is not long between boat/turtles/7 mile beach it would be cheaper to see just turtles then free beach.

Did I make sense?

Laura

Laura- The turtle farm isn't that far from port. The turtle farm should be totally doable along with 7 mile beach. Taxis always seem to plentiful. The turtle farm shouldn't take more than an hour. I would go as soon as you are able. With other ships in port and us being behind the 8 ball, I have a feeling it's going to be a bit crowded.

Chuck,

Tell me about this mini golf course. We might go there after we eat lunch. . . . It sounds to be close to this restaraunt we ate at a couple of years ago. It was several blocks to the left of where we tendered and 1 block off the street. We asked the cab driver to take us somewhere he would take his mother on a special occasion. The place was literally in between 2 buildings and covered with a tent, but it was VERY nice. Aside from the tent, you would have thought you were at the Columbia restaraunt in Tampa.

Martinis, here we come. I hope they know what they are getting into!!

I just checked the Nasa site. They are expecting a cold front to possibly delay the launch. The launch window is through November 25. Could be good news!! Just a word of caution, if the launch date is November 22nd, plan on leaving early for the port. Traffic on the Bee Line is HORRIBLE on launch dates.

Well we have been to the Colombia restaurant in St Armand's circle...not sure if it is the same chain as in Tampa...that said, the miniature golf course is a straight shot from the ferry port and gigantic flagpole that are 6 blocks left of the cruise ship dock...the course is about 3 blocks straight inland and if i recall correctly, is on the far left corner of the intersection as you approach...the course is built on several levels and was surprisingly well kept up and challenging....and we play quite a bit of miniature golf as DS's goal is to eventually win...he is getting close.

Hi, I've read these posts for a while and never took the time to register. My wife Linda and I (Ron) will be on this cruise with our two kids.

Our Daughter Elizabeth (8) will be spending time in the club for her age (forget what it's called) and our Son Ronnie (13) is looking forward to the teen club since he just became a teen. I'm sure they will both be happy to make friends with any kids near their ages in the clubs or hanging out by the pools.

So thanks for all of the tips you've all been posting, we really appreciate it. Last year was our first cruise on a land/sea package. This will be our first 7 day and we're really looking forward to it.

Since we'll all be on the boat for Thanksgiving, it's kinda like we'll all be one big disneyfunctional family together!!

Travel safe & see ya on the Turkey Day cruise!!

Ron

Not to be a party pooper, but... As much as I would love to see a launch that close, I don't want it to delay us getting to the port. That would be a major bummer after waiting this long.

When is the cold front supposed to hit Cape Canaveral? I don't think it's supposed to get to us until Saturday night.

Welcome, Ron and family! I do think we are one big "DIS"functional family!:lmao: It will be so nice to kind of know some people before getting to the ship, although I'll be calling everyone by their DIS names.:)

Ken--when we cruised last September, we got to see a rocket launch, and it was so cool! I have some really great pictures and would post them, but I'm just too lazy to go find the disc.:confused3

Disney changed our island tour at GC to 9:30-11:30, so I think we will be getting in to port before the originally scheduled 11:00 time. Our initial reservation for the tour was 11:30-1:30 and then Disney changed it. I guess we'll see when we get there, but that is what my reservation says when I log on to the DCL site. I hope it's right too because that would give us more time to explore a little more on the island either at a beach or at margaritaville.:thumbsup2

I'm off to bed. I've been exhausted lately for some reason. I think my body is trying to tell me I need a cruise or something......:goodvibes

We are leaving at 4. But We are thinking about trying to get earlier flight we are on continental.

I just spoke to Disney and they said
CC 8:30 - 4pm
Cozumel 8am - 5pm
GC 11am -5pm
CC 9:30-5pm

they changed the time of our GC excursion to 9:45AM so I am thinking that we may be arriving early.....or we all have to swim to our excursion. :rotfl:

Okay somewhere online I found a whole list of prices. Sorry I cannot remember where. I was doing a websearch for the Turtle Farm and "water park". I know I found pictures and lists of prices....just do not remember where.

Chuck,

Tell me about this mini golf course. .

I thought they had a website. I had researched the place once before and was thinking now our dd would be old enough, but decided she may be too young. Chuck do you know the website, or am I crazy?

Okay I am answering my own question because it was going to make me nuts....and Chuck is out in front of a Wal-Mart anyway so I guess he could not answer it anyway.

Here is the link to the website for the Cozumel Mini-golf
