Traveling Turkeys Part 2 11/22/08

Good morning! I didn't get much farther last night with the cruise packing or the Christmas tree. I just have to pack Brian and myself. That shouldn't be as hard as packing the kids.

It's supposed to be pretty nice here today--in the mid to upper 50's. It was freezing here yesterday! We're getting ready for church and then DD has volleyball practice this afternoon. I'm going to try to talk my family in to sneaking up to Lawrence to get a few things before DD's volleyball practice. Wish me luck. I may be going by myself, but that's okay too.;)

I'm to the point where I don't get a full nights sleep. I've been waking up around 4:00 a.m. for the last four mornings. I think I'm thinking about what all I need to do to get ready for the trip or something. When I wake up, I start thinking about everything and then I just toss and turn. Hopefully next week by this time that will have all passed. It's wearing me out!

Hope everyone has a good day. The realization that this trip is pretty much here has hit my family. When my kids come in and tell me how many more days until the trip, you know it's just around the corner!

Susan

Susan - I was up at 5am. Couldn't sleep either. I was thinking about you last night while watching the Wizard of Oz. Did you know the Gale family and Dorothy?:lmao:
You go into Lawrence? Are there museums there about John Brown and the Civil War? There's a lot of history in that town. We need to talk.............:scared1:
I think we're getting your freezing weather today. It's snowing now.
Judy

Judy,

They are my neighbors.:lmao: Yes, we live about 25 minutes from Lawrence. We either go there or to Kansas City when we need to shop. KC is about 45 minutes away though. I'm hoping to sleep a little better tonight. I think I'm becoming that Disney commercial--too excited to sleep.:)

Off to church we go.....

Susan

Parrothead! Sweet. I would have been all over myself! And probably would have said something like "Hey Jimmy! Sing!".

Ken - The veggie jello was only one of the crazy things she use to make. She use to make Limburger and onion sandwiches. I stayed outside those days. It stunk so bad. She loves to cook and was a very good cook actually. She is a registered dietitian also but she's 87 now and her taste buds are failing her. She puts a ton of seasoning and salt in everything and you have to be careful when you eat at her house! When I was visiting her a few weeks ago she was making massive quantities of deviled eggs with hot sauce. Like almost 2 dozen for just the 2 of us!:lmao:

We had an aunt like that. She was a bit on the crazy side. Christmas was always a special surprise with her. After you disasembled the 13 yards of scotch tape used to wrap a present, it was always fun th see what she took off the shelf at her house and wrapped up. I remember one year she bought a cheap fake replica of the that diamond from movie Titanic. It was great for the movie, but . . . . you know. She was so proud of it and poor Michellene had to wear it whenever we saw her after that.

As to the jello, the figs did not work either..

As to the weather, it is a beautiful sunny upper 60's here...breezy, but warm enough, especially with the tropical sun, to play tennis in shorts and a t-shirt this morning.

Ahhh, a regifter!:santa:
Tell Mich she's lucky she got the necklace. One year my mother in law had us over for Christmas. She also had Tim's 2 brothers and their families. All the gifts were passed out. Everyone had a ton of presents. There I sat. Finally Tim found this little tiny box she had wrapped for me. I got all excited thinking it was earrings or a nice piece of jewelry. It was a BOX OF PAPER CLIPS! Yep. That's what I got. I had to sit there in front of everyone with my paper clips (they weren't even the pretty colored ones.) I wanted to leave so bad but I had to stay all afternoon. Tim was pretty flipped out too. When I got up to go to the bathroom, I threw them away. His mother hated me for the first couple of years we were married. She's dead now.

Chuck - I give you guys a lot of credit. I never would have thought of figs!

5 days to AKL!!

My mommy got in last night (to Boston from MN). DD got to show her the Disney Cruise planning DVD for the first time. We've been talking about nothing else, of course!

I can't believe our shuttle leaves AKL at 12:30!! I thought we were supposed to BE at the port by 11 for sure! Although I suppose this is a good thing; we're going to the Arabian Nights dinner show Friday night, and won't be getting to bed until probably close to 11. DD's usual bedtime is 7:30, so she'll definitely need that extra sleep in the morning!!

We went on a vacation this past fourth of July weekend, where the parties didn't get started until after dark. As long as DD took a nap every afternoon, I let her stay up a few hours later so that she could catch the festivities, and it worked out really well. She re-adjusted to her normal sleep schedule as soon as we got home too. I signed us up for 2nd seating (8:30) so that she'll be awake for the shows before dinner, figuring that if she's too tired and can't stay up late we can at least eat at one of the self service places or get room service and eat at a more "normal" time. But hopefully we'll be able to schedule an afternoon nap each day so that she can enjoy the later parties and stuff like before.

I can't believe y'all are talking about Christmas decorations! despite the fact that I've been listening to holiday music on the radio for a couple of weeks already, the thought of decorating hasn't even crossed my mind!! Ok, the house is DEFINITELY not clean enough to put up a tree! Oh boy... :scared1:

Speaking of packing... has anyone used those Space Bags that you roll the air out of? I bought some for stuff that doesn't matter if it gets wrinkled, like socks, underwear, bathing suits, pajamas, etc. I'm also planning to use them for all the dirty clothes on the way home.

My roommate uses the space bags to pack away bedding and stuff when not in use. They're pretty amazing! I, on the other hand, am much cheaper, and just use ziplocks. Basically, I pick up those giant ziplock bags and stuff them full of clothes. Then I sit on them and zipper them shut. It doesn't work quite as well as the space bag system, but it does work pretty darn well!

Well, I just cancelled our reef snorkeling excursion on GC. There's so much to do, we just can't decide! Early on, I was pretty gung ho about the excursions, and couldn't decide on one. But now I'm worried that if we do an excursion, we won't have time to do any other fun stuff at the ports of call! I'm DEFINITELY not cancelling the dolphin swim, but I think we're just going to do some tourist shopping and laze around seven mile beach on GC.

We also don't have any excursions booked on CC. One of the days we're going to spend at the family beach with DD, and the other day we're going to sign her into scuttle's cove and head to serenity bay for some cabana massages, then get back on the boat early to get ready for our Palo dinner.

Is there anyone else who decided to forego excursions? What are your alternate plans? I've never been on a cruise, never been to any of these places, and I know I can't see and do EVERYTHING, so for those of you who have been before, what are the "must-see / must-do" things at GC or Cozumel?

I checked out the ten-day forecasts. Cozumel is sunny and warm for the foreseeable future. High in the low sixties in Orlando, but otherwise sunny and calm. GC looks like it's getting a bunch of wind and rain (but of course it will be lovely while we're there!! Still, might be a good idea to pack a poncho...)

SIX MORE DAYS!!!!:yay:

Well I see our weather here is much better than Pittsburgh...just saw a preview for the Steelers game...looks like snow there..

It's fun to see there are nanaheads posting here.:goodvibes I certainly hope we do bring the Magic back in one piece, or we're in big trouble. You guys have a fabulous cruise as well!

Susan

Hi Traveling Turkeys! First off, I hope you all have a fantastic time on your cruise. We wait so long for these things and expect perfection. (Don't worry about the forcasts---weather people are wrong most of the time anyways).

In fine Nanahead spirit, I made a list of concerns and observations from previous years where the Nanaheads followed the turkeys. Please help us out here.

1. The feathers....Lord, the feathers.... they were just everywhere when we boarded.

2. The wafting odor of turkey that was kept beyond its expiration date. Seriously, it went from bow to stern.

3. There wasn't one nanahead that wasn't poked in the butt with a wishbone that had been discarded on the furniture and mattresses.

4. The tryptophan (don't be lazy, look it up). The various Disney characters were either asleep or sitting, listlessly watching football--- its not much of a sail away party when Mickey is passed out on one of the deck chairs, staring at the ocean.

5. There was stuffing between the sheets. 300 thread count sheets lose their magic when celery gets wedged in places it shouldn't oughta.

6. Giblets in Diversions. Very hazardous for Nanaheads that frequent the establishment. I almost slipped on one myself.

7. We all expect things and the kids were very disappointed when they found cranberry sauce at Scoops instead of the traditional strawberry AND I
QUOTE "bleeeach---what was that stuff?"

If we think of more we will bring them to your attention. I asked the other Nanaheads to join in and lend a hand. YOU are VERY welcome.....

Hi Chuck!

daaaaaaaaaaaa
Mutt.

Hi TurkeyDay cruisers!! Another NanaHead here... my concerns and those of my BFF's are simple...
DO NOT DRINK ALL THE TEQUILA!!! we thank you:thumbsup2

Wow Judy, I'm sitting here watching the Steelers game. I can't believe the snow you are getting. I'm sure you are saying "Bring on the warm weather".:)

To answer the Nanaheads, can't make any guarantees about bringing the ship back in one piece. We definately have a lot of partiers on our cruise. :cool1: :dancer: :drinking: :drinking1
