Traveling Turkeys 2010

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! We had record snowfalls here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Had 12 inches of snow at the house. Girls had Friday off so they have to go to school tomorrow. What a crazy winter we are having. This is the 3 snow with accumulation this winter- we are lucky if we get one a winter. Been keeping warm at home watching the Olympics!

What worries me is the last crazy winter we had lead to a crazy hurricane season.

We have booked another cruise already for March 2011 on the Dreams. It'll be a 4 day over spring break. We have considered moving our reservation from Thanksgiving to right after the 4 day to make a back to back, but I really don't want to give up a 7 night and my lobster Thanksgiving day dinner.

If anything the cold winter will lower the water temps in the Caribbean thereby reducing the severity of the hurricanes.
If you sail before mid June or after Nov 1 your chances are nil for a hurricane.

Well, good news and bad news. We cancelled our Turkey day cruise. My dad backed out and we couldn't justify spending the money if we weren't also spending the holiday with family. The good news is we moved it to go on the back end of a 4 day on the Disney Dreams in March 2011, so we're doing our first back to back on the new ship.

Hopefully I'll get to sail on Turkey day again another year.

Sorry you will be missing the trip. Enjoy your cruise on the Dream.
Post your impressions of this new ship

My dd Megan 14
My dd's bff Kimberly 15

Welcome! We have several 14-15 yo girls (at least 5 with your two). This will be really fun for them. As we get closer, we'll have to set up an e-mail list so they can visit back and forth.

I'm getting excited already and wish we were sailing next week!

Spring is in the air here in Texas! We went to DC over spring break and had the best weather ever only to return and find snow on the ground! What is up with that???? What wacky weather we had this winter and I am glad to see that it is getting warmer! Just hope that we don't spring in to summer right away. Got cruise info in the mail while we were gone! Makes me want to hop on board and start the fun.... So instead I will just dream about it and start planning for the cruise! Guess we need to start thinking about FE's and such...Who wants in on the fun?

Weather has been ridiculously crazy here this year as well! In the county next to us they had over 200 inches of snow this winter. :scared1: We got cruise papers a few weeks ago and cannot wait. A thanksgiving where I don't have to cook... that's amazing :thumbsup2 Can't wait for this cruise :goodvibes any body have any good ideas for what to do at the ports? We've never been on the eastern carribean and never taken a baby to a port. She'll be a little over 1. Any suggestions? :goodvibes

Happy Easter! The Easter bunny brought way to much candy this year- will have to work a little harder to get off those extra pounds before the cruise! Can't believe it is April! Only 2 more months of school- where has all the time gone. I am so excited to be thinking about shore excursions and cruise details. Looking for advice on shore excursions.:confused3

Wow! Just realized my last post took us to page 7! :goodvibes

Yay Page 7! Happy Easter :goodvibes

Only a handful of holidays left until we're celebrating Thanksgiving on the Magic!:banana::banana: Anybody do anything exciting today? We went to a great Easter brunch where they had the easter bunny. Lorelei got her first pic with the easter bunny and then tried to eat the flowers next to him. She wasn't scared at all :thumbsup2 I'll have to post the pic once I upload it. The easter bunny was sitting in Candyland which was basically this awesome dessert buffet with all sorts of pie, cake, cookies and other delicious things.

We spent a very relaxed day at home. Even though my girls are older, the bunny still visits our house and leaves eggs for us to find! Girls had a blast finding all their basket goodies! With both having birthdays in late fall, this is a good way for them to get some treats before summer! The weather was rather dreary so it didn't feel much like spring around here. Still looking for sunshine today- don't think the sun is going to visit us much all week!

Lauren,

Where did you go for Easter Brunch?

Herr...I'm glad your Easter was relaxing. Ours was as well which is great because we've been under a lot of stress lately. My father has Alzheimer's and lived with us for three weeks in November before he moved into an assisted living here in Morgantown. Two weeks ago they determined that he's wandering too much for the AL to handle (they just aren't equipped to deal with memory care patients). So we moved him back in with us on March 25th. My dear husband cared for my Dad and our 3.5 yo so that Katie and I could take our long awaited trip to NYC to see Wicked (which was fabulous BTW).

This is a busy week so I'll really be dreaming of the cruise. My in-laws are coming tomorrow to stay with us for a few days while they house hunt here (we'll be bursting at the seams). I have scrapbooking club on Thursday night, and then Dad and I leave on Friday morning for Phoenix because he will be moving into a facility there that is better equipped to handle memory care patients. Sad and hard week for me.

Lauren, I was just at the dental school two weeks ago because my dad participated in that study on oral health and Alzheimer's. It's a very interesting study. I wish I would have remembered that you were there. I could have perhaps come by to say hi.

Well, I'm off to bed since it's 12:50. I had to stay up and cheer on Butler University :cheer2:in the hopes that they might beat Duke but it was not to be. :sad2:

Night all!

I am so glad that you got to go on your trip to NYC. Wicked is coming to Dallas in May. My girls really want to go. Spring is really busy for us so I am trying to find reasonable tickets for a matinee.
Suzanne

Suz- We went to Lakeview for brunch. I decided I wanted to get all dressed up and go out this year. I'd like to come tomorrow to scrapbooking. I'll send you a PM.

Since it's pretty quiet here on this thread I'm going to share pics of Lorelei's first Easter.

We actually got a headband that she would leave on! :cool1:

She's still in her chew everything stage.

Lorelei with daddy. She loves to chew on spoons for some reason... whatever keeps her quiet while we're eating.

Our friend Adam came to play with her after dinner. Yay mommy got a break from being playmate and got some laundry done.

Lorelei is too cute! Thanks for sharing the photos! I think we have the quietest thread on this site.

Based on this thread, I am waiting to hear from DCL any day now that they have upgraded me to a suite due to lack of demand. :lmao:
