I'm traveling to Boston this week for some research and realized that I should try to see some of this city that I've only previously passed through. I just got home from NYC-Toronto last week, so I'm not thrilled about traveling again (already missing DH and dogs), so I thought one of you might suggest somethingto do that would help me get excited about the trip.

I have to be at the Harvard libraries from 1-4:45 each day, but I have mornings and evenings free- any suggestions for something fun to do?

The city trolly/bus tours are a lot of fun. If you are at a hotel, it will be easy to get information on these, as there are a bunch. Most drive to the major sites, give some good commentary, and some let you hop off and catch a later trolley.

If you like walking, I'd recommend the Freedom trail. This is a self guided walk with lots of historic sites. You can take all day on the whole thing, or spend a morning doing part. It starts on the common downtown, and lot of little shops in that area will sell maps of the trail.

I'd look at the boston.com travel page. It has information on the things I mentioned, plus a ton of other options and info:

I just got back from a business trip to Boston. It's a great city!!!!

A couple of things that we did(there was a group from hospital travelling):

1. The Duck Tour-I HIGHLY recommend this!!!!! Try & do it first, and it may give you a glimpse of things that you might want to go back & see in more detail.

2. Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall

3. Paul Revere's House & The Old North Church in the North End-this is the Italian section, so there is some really great food here!!!!!! Also, if you're there over a weekend, there's usully some kind of festival in honor of a saint in the North End, so there's a carnival-type atmosphere with food vendors, music etc.

4. Comedy Club-in the North End-a good night time activity

5. The Prudential Center-a great area for shopping & dining. We styaed at the Marriott attached right to the Prudential Center, so it was VERY convenient!

The duck tour is excellent! Definately try to do this if you can. Shopping and dining at Fanueil Hall Marketplace is fun too, and a good evening activity. You can also take a scenic horse and buggy ride from Fanueil Hall. Or if you want something a little more offbeat, try the ghost tour (sort of a trolley tour of Boston's early , haunted history).

Also, harbor cruises are nice evening activities. If you go over by the waterfront, (maybe for a nice dinner at any of the fine resteraunts in the Italian North End) stop by the New England Aquarium. You can see the seals, even if you don't get to go in the Aquarium. There is also an Imax theater there.

If you want to check out some museums, the Museum of Fine Arts is great and there is a neat Lord of the Rings movie exhibit going on right now in the Museum of Science.

Shopping on Newbury Street is fun too. :) There is also shopping and dining at the Prudential Center, including a top floor resteraunt, the Top of the Hub that has live jazz each night while you dine.

And if you get there in the morning/afternoon, you can always take a swan boat ride in the Boston Public Gardens.

Boston is really fun. :)
:wave2:

I was going to suggest....talk to EsmeraldaX or TLinden16...I'm sure one or both will help you out!

Enjoy Boston....It's a great city, but if you get sidetracked and head south...the Cape is nice too this time of year!

I'm also going to say take an evening cruise out of the harbor; some have dinner cruises, some are just sightseeing, but they are all excellent.

Yes, the harbor cruises are among my favorite things to do when I'm in the city.

You could also take in a show in the theater district. The Lion King is playing at the Opera House, and there are a number of other shows playing.

Also, the WANG theater (a large , beautiful theater that normally hosts plays and ballets) plays classic movies for free one night a week. It's a nice way to spend an evening. I will look into it for you if you're interested, and try and figure out which night it is.

Welcome to Boston!

The weather has been cool lately and very nice for walking around the City.

Besides the excellent Duck Tours, as mentioned, check out The Greater Boston Tourist Bureau for more ideas and updates. They also have a link to Cambridge info on their home page. Harvard Square is fun, lots of shops and restaurants to try. Right next to the Harvard Red Line T station is an info kiosk where you can get handy maps of the square.

Take a walk down Newbury Street (near the Prudential Center, Arlington or Hynes Conv. Ctr. Green Line T) in Boston. There are many fine shops and a few cafes along this road. One end is also near our Public Garden/Common with the infamous Swan Boats. Very nice in the daytime.

In the North End of Boston (near the Fleet Center) there are Italian feasts held nearly every weekend. The next is the Fisherman's Feast, August 12th-15th, on Fleet and North Street. Evenings are lit up with lights and music.

For public transportation info check out the MBTA site.

For the "Best of Boston" list and more check out Boston Magazine . Another nice info site is here, by "Boston Man" .

For lunch or dinner cruises in Boston Harbor check out Spirit of Boston . There are also whale watching cruises and others that leave from Rowes Wharf and the Aquarium areas.

Hi Eileen. Depending on how close to 95 in Foxboro you are, and what time of day you're travelling (there's tons of construction going on 95), it's 30min trip to downtown Providence. I have been doing that commute every day for years :p

Thanks, it won't be until next year when Drum Corps goes to RI and Mass. Finals for class I are in Foxboro and class II & III are in Providence.
