My friend saw a recent episode of Oprah where they chatted with a doctor briefly about 'traveler's constipation,' but they didn't much adress any remedies other than get more fiber and water.

My friend was too embarassed to ask, so she asked me to ask you Disney tipsters if you have any remedies for this malady?

;)

Sure at the counter service places that have the dressing bars... eat the fried onions LOL I did and couldn't stop going to the bathroom!!! Other then that hehe, drink lots eat fruit and relaxe!:confused3

Well, in case anyone is interested, I did a little research and one tip that I am going to try (if necessary, of course) is to soak a few prunes in a glass of water overnight and then down it in the morning.

Much better than chemical laxitives which are really not good for you.

Remember, fiber and fluids.

This trip I am packing some homemade flax muffins. I know they will do the trick.

When I travel I take fiber tablets every day. I find if I am on a trip where I have to sit a lot--business trips usually--I am miserable! So walk a lot and get fluids, not necessarily sodas ( can cause gas :headache: ). Prunes & apples should also work as good snacks. My husband swears by coffee.

Isn't it caused just from not drinking enough? Why don't you just down 6 glasses of water really fast? (Yes, I do this).

besides drinking (water and alcohol) every day I also ate a SALAD everyday

The three most important things to remember in combatting constipation is
1. Eat plenty of fibre - wholemeal food and cereals, veg and fruit (there is no fibre in juices remember as it is removed, however, some people say some juices clear them out anyway). 2. Plenty of fluid (remember caffeine does dehydrate). 3. Exercise- this encourages the movement in the gut that propels are waste (sorry) out of the system (walking around WDW should help).
Recent reseach has shown that a cup of fresh (not instant) coffee first thing in the morning helps to kick start that particular system into action and yes prunes are a very good natural laxitive (everybody in hospital here in the UK are offered/encouraged a bowl full every morning!).
One last thing to mention, try passing a motion 10-15 mins after a meal. This is also a time that your gut works stongest so basically the idea is to start retraining your bowel to get into a habit. I know it sounds crazy, but it does work. I run a constipation clinic for children as part of my job and it works a treat for them.

Eat a lot of salads. Last trip to Disney, we also bought some Fiber one cereal bars.

There is an herbal tea brand called Traditional Medicinals that is made with medicinal quality herbs and sold in health food stores and some better supermarkets with health food areas. Get the one called Smooth Move.:lmao: I suffer this malady no matter how much water I drink or how much fiber I eat. There is something about flying that just...I don't know...but one glass of this before bedtime always does the trick for me the next day. And you gotta love the name...Smooth Move. Cracks me up everytime.:rotfl2:

Drink one glass of Metamucil a day. I swear by this stuff. I have been taking it once a day for many years and it totally cured my irritable bowel syndrom and keeps me regular.

I started taking it per my doctor's advice and if I skip one day, I notice a big difference. I call it my miracle drink.

I have suffered this travelers malady for many years. If all the above tips don't help....there's always Fleet, Quick and to the point! I don't leave home without it!

My mom uses Miralax (it's new and OTC) and she swears by it. It's like flavorless fiber mix for your drink.

She suggests starting with 1/2 a dose and swears it will get you back on track.

Just have your gallbladder removed! ;)

Seems like when I'm traveling I have the opposite problem of Traveler's Constipation. I have to reeeeeallly watch what I eat!
