Yes we use them all over WDW and Universal..all the restaurants, fast food counter service places, stores and even the food carts around the park accept travelers cheques. I have used both Visa ones and American Express, no problems with either and much safer than cash if you are not using a credit card or debit card.

I've never had a problem cashing TC. I usually cash them at the front desk for my $ for the day, but even when I've needed extra $ the shops and restaurants have never been a problem. I highly recomend them. Once, I had been on vacation for about 1 hour and I lost my TC. What a way to start off on a trip to WDW! They were replaced within hours. No problem, except for the stress I had untill I got my replacements. I highly recomend them.

I was thinking of using TC's myself, but I hit on a very simple idea!

If you are staying at a Disney hotel, you can charge all purchases and food (including counter service, but not the carts) to your room. If you are paying for the room by credit card, then it goes on that. If you want to pay with cash or TC's, then I think you just put a deposit down (say $500) and that's what you can bill to the room. Once you hit the limit, you can add more cash/TC's if needed.

I like it this way because I don't have to carry cash or TC's in the park, and if I lose the room key, I don't have to cancel my credit cards or get TC's replaced, I can just contact the front desk of the hotel to cancel the old and reissue the new.

Of course this only counts if you are staying at a Disney Resort hotel, so if you're staying off-site, you can't do this. But I think its a great way to go, and yet another perk of staying on-site!

Just be careful of the charge back to room feature, DH and I did that on our Honeymoon, and we had no clue we spent as much as we did, it was a learning experience.

I beleive you can ask for a print out of expenses everyday at the front desk. This way you can see what you're spending and make sure there are not errors. Thanks for pointing that out though, Bugsmom!
