Travel Trailer Recommendations

Make sure you have a big enough tow vehicle. I run a high top Chevy conversion van with the 5.3 V-8. Pulling a 3500lb pop-up, we can run 70 mph all day and still get 13.5 mpg compared to 15 daily driving. Wife's uncle bought a hybrid that was pretty short. He thought he could pull with his mini van because it was only 3200lb. He couldn't get the van much over 55 or into high gear. I hooked on with my van, and the camper just has too much wind resistance. I could run 65, but it was work to get it any faster. Towing mileage dropped from 13.5 to 9 mpg. Then I hooked onto it with our new Jeep Grand Cherokee with the diesel engine. It pulled it great, felt good running 65, but never got into 8th gear. It really felt good running in 7th. Mileage dropped from 28 to about 22mpg. It's not the pounds, but the size of the sail you are pulling behind you.
