Travel to Great Britain question

I've decided to go to York so I guess we'll be taking the train from London to York and then on to Edinburgh. I know I'm going to miss a lot doing this trip in only 12 days, but that's just the way it is. Hopefully we'll be able to go back and "stop and smell the roses."

As far as our WDW trips go......we are full speed the WHOLE time and I am worn out by the time we get home. We always stay about 10 days and see everything at least twice, but it is soooo hectic.

We're taking a cruise for our next vacation so we can "chill." ;)

Oh, I totally disagree about

Take a drive down the highway at home and you can see the countryside. Trees look the same here and there and the grass is green here and there.

Taking the train early in the morning from Edinburgh to York, across the beautiful moors is so different from driving through the country here. It is spectacular and not to be missed.

JMHO, but I would go to Edinburgh first, there is more to see, then a one day stop in York should be plenty. You will be amazed by Edinburgh. Waverly road (I think that is the name) bisects the old part of town from the newer "Georgian" section and it is like night and day. Look wowards the old and you will see jumbles of old buildings, low ceilinged, cramped together, really cool in their own way, with the ancient castle looming above on an outcropping. Look the other way and you see a planned city with beautiful squares with gardens, terraces houses and lovely limestone buildings. It is really fascinating. Make sure you take a ghost walking tour at night (and in York, too) it is a riot and you will learn something about the less appetizing history of the city. If you have a chance, climb "Aurthor's Seat" a peak of rock just behind the old part of the city. It offers spectacular views of the whole city and out to the Firth of Forth.

I have to stop writing about this or I will be booking us reservations!!!!! Have fun!
