there are direct buses to EPCOT and Animal Kingdom and MGM, take an internal bus (Purple, Yellow & Orange) to the settlement or the outpost bus stops depending on which park you want to go to. Check this Link for more information
As Disney Campers indicated, to use the bus system, just get on one of the FW internal busses going to the settlement or outpost. At those locations you can connect to busses everywhere else in the "World".
There are 2 monorail "loops":
The original monorail loop was built in 71 and serviced the Magic Kingdom and MK hotels. It has 2 tracks which have 2 different schedules. One track is an "express" which runs from the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) to the MK and back. The local track stops at the TTC, MK and all the MK hotels. These hotels include the Contemporary, Grand Floridian and the Polynesian.
The second loop travels on one track betweent the TTC and Epcot.
When you check in you will get a bus map and the CM will explain how the transportation system works.
