By boat?
Thinking of making the trip over for lunch during my trip next month.

I figure it will be a nice way to get 'away' from the crowds for a bit.

Has anyone made the journey before?
Worth the trip?
Anything to not miss at Ft. Wilderness?

I have done the reverse, Trails End to MK. I'd allow anywhere from 30 minutes (best-case) to an hour, depending mainly on the luck with your timing. My family thinks it's a nice relaxing trip.

If you catch the boat just right, probably ~ 20 minutes. Usually with a bit of a wait for the boat, it's typically ~35-50 minutes trip including wait. The boat will drop you off right by Pioneer Hall and Trail's End. You can also do a quick walk over to the Contemporary and take the resort boat that runs between the Fort, Contemp, and Wilderness Lodge. You can take an internal bus down to the stables and check out the horses. Not sure if he's still there, but the horse that was the inspiration for Maximus from Tangled used to be there.

We stay at the Fort every year in October for the F&W Fest. Trail's End is a hidden gem, but can be tough to get to unless you're around the MK resort area. The breakfast and dinner buffets are great as well. Nothing fancy, but good home style food served well like ribs, pulled pork, and fried chicken. The dinner buffet also has a baked potato bar which I love!

boat trip is about 20 minutes but your time will depend on how long you wait for boat and how long you sit waiting to pull out for that 20 minute ride. I would plan on 45 minutes from leaving MK to getting to Trails End

thanks all...I'm going to plan it as 3hr 20 min with lunch and transportation, and not make the first thing back a 'must see'...if it takes a little longer, so be it....

if you have kids with you make some time for a pony ride while you are over there and let them run around the playground a little while.
