I know you are all such a wealth of knowledge, so....where does everyone buy their travel insurance from? I know that any travel agent etc. will be well over priced, but where can I get good cover without breaking the bank? I've had a trawl throuigh the net, but thought posting here might be quicker & come with a recommendation...or not!

Thanks everyone in advance.

Last year, We got ours from virgintravelstore, for a family of 5 it was £99. I remember the travel agents price was about £200! It was also cheaper to get an annual insurance rather than insurance for 1 trip! I have noticed the same for this year is £150. I don't know whether that is the trend for all companies. Hope this helps.

I have used travelplan-direct.co.uk for the past five years. I paid £85.00 for a family of 5, annual worldwide, multitrp renewal (DH has pre-existing condition). I made a claim in 2001 for my DD and the payment was return of post - very impressive service.

Post office was £54 for single trip worldwide for one parent family. I think it was around £100 for family cover. Much less than I paid through travel agent 3 years ago!!!

Our annual, unlimited travel insurance comes free with our CC. This particular card, which has several perks, is no longer available unfortuntely.

Another vote for the Virgin Travelstore. We brough ours online for £99 for the annual family policy.

I would MOST DEFINATELY CHECK that with whoever you decide to go with check to see how many days cover you get. With some annual policies you only get 21 or 31 days cover (which in the scheme of things is not very much).

An annual pass is definately the way to go though.

Thankyou all for your responses, especially the last link. Why couldn't all cover be equal? At least that way you would only need to consider the premium & not the level of cover you get - especially important when trvelling to the US!

Give thisismoney.com a go they search through the web for you and you only have to enter your details once. our annual family policy cost us £72 with norwich union direct, quite a good price I thought.
