i went to the membersite and found this interesting note.it talks about travel insurance for those of us who use points.i guess the interesting point will be what they see as an appropriate reimbursment!here's what they say:

Coverage will protect for losses on reservations using Vacation Points or cash, or a combination of both, by providing cash reimbursements for specific circumstances.

The reimbursement is $5 per point. For cash reservations, it is whatever deposit you lose.

The trickier part is "for specific circumstances". I never bought DVC's insurance but have bought travel insurance for other trips (non-Disney). Some have pre-existing condition clauses that are not covered. For example, if you have a heart problem when you sign up for the insurance and cancel because of the heart problem, it's not covered (some waive the pre-existing clause if you buy the insurance within 7 days of deposit). The insurance specifies what conditions they will pay under. There usually has to be a documented medical reason or a death in the family. Job related cancellations usually are not covered. Just changing your mind is not covered. Be sure to find out what is covered before you buy it. You will get a flyer with a number to call when you get your reservation confirmation. DVC does not actually handle it, it's through Travelguard Insurance.

i had a feeling it would be less than the 10 dollars we are pushing for on the trade board!!!

I wouldn't buy it unless you had a trip right at the end of your use year where you would not have time to rent the points for a last minute cancellation. You might also consider it for a cruise, where the penalties are different and the points could not be rented for DVC resorts.
