I am not sure where to post this question.

How many of you have purchased travel insurance? I am planning a trip for 2005 and am wondering if I should purchase travel insurance. I tried to do a search on this subject but that function has been disabled.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I paid for it accidently! But I've decided to keep it (not that it's probably an option to drop it!)

It added $70 to our trip--and I'm really happy with the deal we got on the rooms and flights, so I figure why tempt fate!

I asked a similar question a couple of weeks ago--but I don't know how to find my thread to find the answers for you. The reviews were mixed as to whether it was worth it or not.

I don't buy but I DON'T BOOK PACKAGES. Think about it:

airfare--SW let's you cancel and get full credit,

passes--never expire and you can wait and buy them at the last minute

rental car--no penalty

airport tranfers--no problem

hotel--usually a 5 day penalty and if you had a real emergency (death, hospitalization) Disney would probably work with you.

Compare cancellation penalties with the insurance costs. Read the exclusions, people frequently aren't covered for what they think they are.

I purchase health insurance but that's because I'm coming from out of country ... I never thought much about any other kind of insurance like trip cancellation though... I might consider buying it for my December trip if it covered delays due to weather.

As one poster said - if you book everything seperately - you usually don't have to worry about the insurance - especially if you are familiar with cancellation policies.

If you book a package - you may want to consider it. I've never purchased it before - but both my dad and my grandma are very sick and I may need to postpone my november vacation - so I spent the $70 for piece of mind.

Some people are concerned that I booked a vacation at all - considering what is going on in my family - I'm thinking that by mid-November I may just need to get away with dh and ds.
