So, I probably should know this but I don't, and am worried as this is the first trip to travel as a family out of country.

What type of insurance do people get for trips like this? Where and how?

I'm concerned if one of us will have a general health emergency, and really don't want any surprises once I get there. We are a typical family with no unusual health problems.

TIA

Insuring your trip and health is a good idea.

An acquaintance of mine broke his neck while on vacation in Maine. A wave knocked him over and that was it.
Luckily his spouse had out of country medical insurance for them. He started off at a hospital in Portland, ME, then Boston, MA and finally flown back to Montreal via private jet.

Talk to a travel agent. RBC has great coverage. It is what our family always uses. It needs to be a travel agent not a RBC branch because the coverage is different and yes I know it is RBC.

Worth the money!!!!!!!!

We bought it last year and were glad for it. DH developed a sinus infection which in the end cost us over $400.00 that was completely reimbursed by insurance. That was for prescription antibiotics and a clinic visit. We went with BMO travel insurance last year and it was a super huge pain to actually get the money back but we did eventually get it back. This year, we are covered with Blue Cross as I have taken a permanent posting but I also bought flight/trip cancellation insurance this year for an additional $130.00 which also comes with health insurance.
I would not go without it!!

If you have one of the new "Infinite" VISA cards, you automatically are covered for emergency medical. Great perk!

We always buy insurance..I purchase the annual policy from Blue Cross..only 105.00 and it covers all of us for the year which is nice as we are close the border so we usually driver over every now and then as well as our other vacations.
You just never know when something will happen..I hurt my toe and my visit to the walk in clinic cost to blue cross was more than what I paid for the policy-so for sure it is worth it.
Our ds also travels on his own and I just find that Blue Cross is easy to use.
