Travel Insurance?

I'm usually a lurker but I have a question today...
With all the changes happening in the airlines we are thinking about getting travel insurance for our first trip home to SSR. Has anyone bought insurance from what's offered by DVC or from other companies? What amount you calculate for the points? We are going right at the end of the use year...

I've used the insurance but can't recall the rates for points or cash - but these rates can change frequently. I'd recommend that you call Travel Guard International directly, toll-free at (866) 690-6858 and reference Disney Vacation Club ID#007004.

Members outside the United States can call collect at (715) 345-0505.

Remember that the policy DVC offers only covers the "points" If you are worried about airfare etc... you will need another policy for that. Check your policies carefully LOTS of them are excluding airlines.

Updated. I just looked at the policy info. You can buy a policy that includes airfare too.

Are you worried about losing the money you spent on airfaire? If so, check your credit card company. The credit card I use to book my tickets includes travel insurance. If a flight was to get canceld I would get a refund of my tickets up to $1500. They also include $100 a day for lost luggage and rental car insurance.

Does it cover flight cancellations due to an airline shutting down. Amazingly a lot of these policies don't! You really have to check.

Yes, actually it does. It says "Default of the Common Carrier resulting from Financial Insolvency". I think that would include the airline shutting down because they are no longer able to pay bills.
