Hi, my family and I are going down to WDW for the free dining plan in September from the 13th-18th. Now I know it is hurricane season, and that is really the only reason for us not making our trip. Disney automatically added the $119 to our package for the travel insurance. I saw on here yesterday and I did print it and I think it is under the disney news catagoray. Anyway, it says that if a hurrican is scheduled to hit within 7 days of your trip, you can reschedule without penalties. Obviously, if we had to reschedul we would miss the free dining, but I don't really care about that, that isn't the main reason we were going anyway. Of course it's nice, and obviously, $119 for TI is a small price to pay for free dining for the 3 of us, but I would rather not pay it if I didn't have to. The guy on the phone when we were making our reservations said it was in case of something medical he never said it was weather related insurance. Now of course we don't know what is going to happen one day to the next, but I don't care if my husband, dad or I break a leg, I am going to disney, just get me a wheelchair. So is it true about the hurricane, that if it hits, disney will automatically let you reschedule without having to lose money? Thanks for any and all info!

I got the trip insurance for the first time in 2005. We went in Sept for free dining. Our weather was great. However, on the day we were to fly home, DD woke up vomiting. She was 19 months old at the time. Our flight left in the late afternoon, so I took her to the ambulatory care center. She had a urinary tract infection and was beginning to get dehydrated. We were not allowed to fly home for 48 hours. I got on the with trip insurance company. They handled calling the airlines to cancel us from the flight. They helped us re-book our new flight. We were allowed to stay in our same hotel room. I had to pay for it, and turn in the receipts, but we were reimbursed for the 2 extra nights, our food, the prescription medications and pedialyte for DD, all the additional airline fees, plus DH took DS (age 7 at the time) to Disneyquest and they paid for it as well. It was definately worth having for us.

There is a lot more things covered by the insurance that are helpful. We won't travel to WDW without it.

Definetely get that Travel Insurance! We were scheduled to go on 4/27 on 4/25 my 4 yr old dd got SICK and we had to reschedule our 2 week trip!!! Best $119 I ever spent!! In the grand scheme of things $119 isnt a lot of money considering how much the vacation itself is, ya know?

My parents had to use it a few years ago for a trip just for themselves. A few days before the trip my otherwise healthy Dad ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis. They were glad thery had the Insurance!!

Better to be safe than sorry!

Trip insurance is very much worth it. Flight delays, Norovirus, lost luggage, hurricanes and so on make it worth while. We don't buy the Disney offered insurance (they don't "automatically" add it on...you have to click to select or unselect it and you are prompted several times throughout the booking process) but usually purchase our own independently thru insuremytrip.com.

I agree about the travel insurance being worth it. Nobody ever predicts an issue preventing them from travel or interrupting their travel. We had my FIL pass away during one of our trips-had to cut it short right then and there and fly back home to help MIL take care of things. You can get around broken bones and stuff, but death and severe illness in the middle of your trip is a whole other matter. The one time you opt out of the insurance is the time you'll need it-Murphy's Law!

I booked our September trip w/o insurance and couldn't get over the nagging sensation that I really should've added it to our package. I ended up calling back and adding it on afterall. I guess piece of mind is worth $119.

I should add that it was the thought of hurricanes that prompted me to do so. We live on the Gulf Coast and even if one didn't target the Orlando area, we could always end up getting one here. I doubt I could talk DH into evacuating to Disney while everything we own is being blown away.

I will never NOT get travel insurance. In FEbruary, I sprained my ankle at Epcot. My work insurance covers 80% but there are several hundred dollars still needed to be paid. We will MORE than make our money back on what we paid for the insurance. I think $238 all together is what we paid for DH and I and my portion of the bills have been about $500-600. I definitely recommend it. And the people at TravelGuard have been very nice and helpful so far.
