Thanks Tim, very helpful. What criteria did Which? use for "best buy"? I guess it wasn't just price? Did it also look at levels of cover and what was exclusions there were from the policies?

Having seen a friend get into a lot of financial trouble becuase he thought he was covered by his travel insurance but in reality he wasn't, I like to make sure that my insurance is as comprehensive as possible, even if it means paying a bit extra for it.

Regards

Rob

Thanks for posting these links, Tim :)

When was this report compiled? I think it's worth bearing in mind that 'best buys' are constantly changing and it's always a good idea to get a few quotes to compare current prices.

Would anyone know if you can you insure your whole group (party of six) as a family if you're all not related?

Ken

WHICH? Best Buy Criteria

At least £2 million in medical cover in the US including air ambulance to get you home.

At least £1,500 of baggage cover.

Cover fo cancellation or curtailment of your trip, and the costs of getting you home (e.g. if a close relative falls ill).

Personal liability cover of at least £1 million.

A 24 hour emergency line and cover for legal expensies.

Mmebership of the Financial Ombudsman Service or General Insurance Standards Council.

I had a look at some of the family cover and they only seem to include you, your spouse and any dependant children. It may be worth contacting a few of the insurers to see if they do special 'group' rates on the same lines as family cover.
