Hello,

I did a search, but most of the topics are old.

We are renting a townhouse for 2 weeks in Windsor Hills ($1770)- deposit was 20%, balance needs to be paid in full at the 60 day mark, with various ranges of refunds being given, but none if trip is cancelled within 14 days.

If I buy the disney park tickets via AAA, the tickets are nonrefundable ($862) and I am buying one AP ($462) and a DDE ($65).

I found trip insurance via travelguard - $129 covers our family, two of the kids are free with the promotion that they are running. We are going June 23rd through July 7th.

Has anyone purchase trip insurance before and do you find it worthwhile or is it a waste of money?

TIA...

Jennifer,
Being a home owner I highly recommend the trip insurance. I think it will give you peace of mind if for some reason you have to cancel and do not get any of your money back.
I personally have not bought or used it, but I know I will from now on!
I think its a great bargin the price you got for the insurance!

We always get it I just find it gives me peace of mind, I guess it's a waste of money if you don't use it, but if you need it it's PRICELESS!!

I'm in a similar situation (except I rented for 1 week at Windsor Hills). I purchased insurance via Travelguard this morning. To me, it's worth the peace of mind, especially since we've had some 'near miss' vacation cancellations over the past few years (my wife is a breast cancer survivor and is in and out of the hospital for various side effects from the chemo and surgery). Having the insurance definitely takes away a lot of the anxiety.

I purchased the TravelGuide Essential Expanded package--it cost me $66 dollars for my whole family (insured for $500 each).

We are renting our third home this month in this area and we always use insuremytrip.com to buy insurance that covers anything we would lose if we had to cancel, including the villa cost and airfare. We ended up buying Travel Guard every time, but insuremytrip gives you quotes from many companies. It costs about $120 for our family of 4 but it gives me peace of mind which is worth it to me.

I haven't bought it...but last Sept I wished we had! Just as we were leaving Hurricane Ernesto hit the area...and we were faced with non-refundable priceline.com car reservations...airfare we weren't sure if we could change...and although we own a home... it's booked up pretty solid and if we had to go much later we would have guests there and unable to stay at our own place! Fortunately priceline let us cancel and rebook, and the airlines let us move our trip, and our home was open a few days later, so it all worked out ok, but it was a pretty close call.

We would have let guests do the same thing if we could and we were open, but in our case, for instance, our home is booked 99% solid, so there's no way we're going to be able to accomodate most cancellations like this (and most ERAs state pretty clearly it's not the owner's issue if your trip has to be cancelled, delayed, etc due to events like weather, etc. ).

So...why chance it? It's a pretty cheap way of protecting yourself! Things like sickness, accidents, etc are usually all covered too, in May 05 I got pretty sick with the flu while in Florida..I thought what would have happened if this happened a day or 2 before we left ? (No WAY I could have gotten on an airplane in that condition!).

Thanks for everyone's input.....I went ahead and purchased Travelguard insurance today.
