Travel insurance nightmare

Cruising can restart in Canada after November 1, 2021... Which makes me hope for good news later this fall.
I just spotted this on Delta's site while I was checking on our flights booked for the end of January. It looks like at the end of July they added a product similar to the one that (I believe) West Jet offers, which specifically covers cancellation/interruption due to C-19. It's not cheap at $306.00 per person, but it's something at least. (Also, I don't know if that's USD or CAD. When I'm logged in as a Canadian passenger, the flight prices are quoted in CAD, but I don't know about this).
This gives me hope!!!! We were chatting with other family members about travelling, and what we would do if we tested positive upon coming home.

I mean, I have done my due diligence by getting vaccinated - heck - I even conveniently contracted covid in the spring so I could REALLY build up my antibodies lol. We just wanna have a holiday!!!!!!!! If we do decide to vacation - it will be a short turn around long weekend type trip. I feel like we would be able to social distance better at an all-inclusive resort vs going to the parks or venue of equal amounts of people.

Not to mention all the chlorine and alcohol - you'll be practically immune ;)

Interesting. Thankfully, I was able to cancel my flights without problems because those were booked with points but I will look into that for the future.

Really sad with all the COVID news. I have trips in 2022 , not optimistic for the 2 firsts, maybe the third. I'm am so tired of this pandemic.
May I ask why you don't think the first two will go ahead? Border/quarantine restrictions? Lack of vaccines for little kids? More variants?

I'm starting to get really sad about this whole thing :(. One minute I'm like we'll be having a great time this time next year! Then the next second I think I'll never travel again, lol.

First border, second all the vaccines are great to prevent hospitalisation and morbid infection by the Delta variant, but you can still get infected. So for a week trip, taking the chance of being sick with the infection rate in Florida and quarantine is too much for me.

Thanks! I'm in the same boat. My plan is to go when quarantine is dropped and insurance is a go. Hopefully that happens soon enough :)

Update: So… today I had a two minutes conversation with a very rude Manulife representative who let me know that they were not covering cruises. (She actually interrupted me before I even had the chance to ask if they were covering them. And talked down to me like I was an idiot for believing that they would.)

So I hung up with them and called Blue Cross, found a satisfactory and affordable travel insurance that covers COVID (medical) AND cruises as long as we don’t test positive in the three months before the cruise. I think it’s as good as it gets right now considering the situation.

Now, all we have to do is remain careful, follow recommendations and hope that we remain healthy until the cruise (… and hopefully during the cruise, and after the cruise as well).

This is awesome news! I hope you have the best cruise ever!

I've found Blue Cross to have great coverage and reputation (I have no experience making a claim however).

Hopefully this thread keeps going as more people venture out into the wild (LOL) taking trips and figure out what is and isn't covered with different travel insurance policies. I'm optimistically planning two trips for next summer. Our biggest issue right now is having quarantines with work dropped.

I hope people continue to post their insurance learnings here too !!

I also have the work quarantine issue. My employer requires employees to self isolate for two weeks after any international travel, including to the US. Until they lift that, no leaving Canada for me, no matter how good my insurance is !

I spoke to the following before our trip to California in October
AMA - No Covid Coverage on their travel insurance, Exclusion on Policies
TUGO - Westjet Coverage was good (That was done 10/31) But Exclusion on all other Policies they sold
Allianz Insurance - Have a Specific coverage, needs to be bought directly through them, it was slightly more money then Manulife, but the coverage was very similar
Here is what we did
Manulife - Have a specific coverage "Covid 19 Pandemic Travel Plan", the literature on the website says the "Per Diem" for quarantine only pays out after 31 days, that is incorrect. When I called they stated that was no longer the case and their literature had not been updated. When we purchased in fact there was nothing that stated 31 days or more (I double checked). The cost was $38.00 X 2 People for a total of $76 for the 9 days. Had decent coverage. The biggest downfall is you have to purchase it for each trip, they had available "Cancellation Insurance" but for us it was Pricey (Around $250 Total for $2500 worth of coverage) so we didn't purchase it.
https://www.manulife.ca/personal/insurance/our-products/travel-insurance/travelling-canadians.htmlhttps://www.coverme.com/travel-insu...ndemic-travel-plan.html?province=ON&agecode=0Blue Cross - Our group benefits are through Blue Cross and we are well covered, we called them before we left and they covered you for Covid under the standard coverages as long as you had not tested "positive" in the last 90 days before departure. This seems to be pretty standard with Blue Cross as they wont cover something "Pre-Existing" if you had it 90 days before travel. We did inquire about "Extra" and "Cancellation" Insurance. For their cancellation insurance anything Covid was an Exclusion.
No policies would cover testing, and you were not able to claim it under Health Spending Accounts either.

Our work has the same policy :(
