We have never bought a package just room only. We currently have room only but are going to go ahead and upgrade to a package for room, tickets and dining.
Should we get the trip ins.? The trip is for early November and the airline tickets are seperate since we have used FF miles for them. Since it is only 2 months away I think the only thing that would keep us from going would be a death in the family or if one of us were sick. Does trip ins. even cover a basic illness?

Also what are the penalties for canceling without the trip insurance. For example if we don't have ins. and would have to cancel the trip what all do we loose? I am just used to the room only and cancel 5 days prior or one nights deposit is lost. That was much easier!

Thanks for the link.

But I am still unclear of if I buy a disney package that is room, tix, dining and need to cancel sometime after the 45 days out then what are the penalties?

Some folks in that link responded that the room was no penalty as long as it was more then 5 days out and if the park tix are already purchased then they are yours to keep but this would not be the case for a package would it? And I guess that is what I am wondering. Penalties for canceling with less then 45 days out what do I loose?

Thanks again!

From the back of my itinerary (MYW package):

For cancellation made 44-6 days before arrival, there is a cancellation fee of $100.

For a cancellation made 5 days or less prior to arrival, there is a cancellation fee of $200.

No refunds will be given to no-shows.

There may be additional charges for changing your airline tickets; these fees cover the Disney package (hotel, tickets, meals) only.

We passed on the Disney trip insurance. I read what it covered, and it doesn't cover every reason you might cancel (e.g. covers if you are hospitalized during pregnancy, but not put on doctor-ordered bedrest). Plus, we wouldn't be losing that much if we cancelled close to our trip date, anyways.

Colinsmom: Thank you so much! Those fees are exactly what I was wondering about. I planned to ask my AAA agent about this too but so often I find that they are not always correct!
