Travel Industry Discounts - How to book?

I'm an airline employee so I'm fortunate enough to get great rates at the WDW hotels. For the past several years I have used an "interline" travel agency that is authorized to book travel industry discount rooms at WDW. From what I understand there are only a few of these in the country.

While my TA is very nice she is far from knowledgable about Disney - I've had to tell her what Magical Express is and she is not very in tune with the new MYW tickets.

My question is - for those of you who are eligible for travel industry discounts - can I book this directly with Disney? Is there a special number (feel free to PM me if you can't post it here). I know CRO takes a beating for not being up on things these days but they've got to be better than my current TA!

:earsboy:

I would ask your HR Dept how to go about this. They may have a number for you to call.

Just call CRO. They will then ask you to fax something in to prove that you work for the travel industry. Have fun!

I am a travel agent myself and you have to call the travel industry booking line. If you would like I can PM you the number. They will varify your employment, for us that means we have to have a valid IATAN card when you book and when you arrive. Good Luck....believe me.... If can stay in a CR tower room for the price of a value resort you better believe I am going to do my homework!!! :earsgirl:

can retired airline employees get the discount? My FIL retired 2 years ago from Delta after 35+ years. they may be going with us.

thanks!

I have booked with a travel industry discount for the past 8 yrs and all I did was call CRO and advise them that I was a travel agent...They then booked my room and I never had to fax anything over to them...also out of those many times I used my agency discount I might have been asked twice to see my IATAN card upon arrival...
The only time I had to fax anything over to Disney is when I was requesting discounted passes....

WOW! I've had to fax a letter confirming my employment on company letterhead as well as a copy of my ID before they would even disclose the rates!

I can't say for sure but I doubt it. They always make me fax a letter of employment verification on our letterhead. Even though I book every year they want an updated letter to ensure I'm still employed with the airline.

I can answer the Delta question. Unfortunately, no they don't. My FIL was with Delta (also a 35 year employee) and was asking about getting an industry rate so that he could take my nephew. We called to check on it and they will not honor it. :( Sorry.

I just booked my rooms for our MVMCP trip in December and was told I had to fax a copy of my IATAN card as well as my agency's IATAN certificate within 3 days or the ressie would be cancelled. I also needed to have the info at check in. To quote the CM who booked it, "make sure you have your card at check in because they WILL be checking now. They are really cracking down on unathorized discounts."

They must have changed their policy...I have been out if the industry for about 1 year now..wow that long already....But up to 1 year ago, for me atleast, they never questioned it. I would always have to ask if they needed to see my IATAN card upon check in....I'm just glad they are still giving industry discounts when I was getting out of the business I heard they were pulling back on discounted rates which I thought was crazy because of all the work the agents and airline personnel do they deserve a $$$ break!!!!

I called CRO a couple of weeks ago, checked availability for the resorts I wanted in Aug, asked if airline employee discount was available. The CM gave me the rates, I booked and paid $200 deposit and later faxed the "letter of good standing". I called back a few days later to make sure they had received it and we're good to go! POP for 7 nights and BC for 4! (Haven't tried any add-ons tho - don't need dining plan and haven't decided what tickets we need yet!)

Gotta love those rates :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thanks for the info. That's too bad. After all those years working for the airline, and you lose those few perks and benefits. Oh, well!

I'm just curious. How much of a discount to TA's and airline employees typically get?
This might help me decide where to send my resume.

50%...I can only speak from the airline employee perspective, not the TA, this is a tough business these days. 50% off WDW is a wonderful perk (not to mention flying for free) but you never know from day to day if you will be employed or not. I've worked here for 15 years and love my job but I wouldn't reccomend getting into this business right now!!

:)

Because of all the abuse of people claiming to be TA's to get the discounted rate, CRO will book your TA rate but you must fax them a copy of your IATAN card within 3 days, and pay in full for your reservation. If you don't, it won't cancel but revert to the 'normal' rack rate
When you order your discounted passes, they now require a copy of your IATAN card PLUS a copy of the IATA list.
The castmember- who shall remain nameless (you all know her if you've dealt w/ TA passes) is a real PIA.
FYI..the passes used to not have an expiration date. Now they do. If you order a 7 day ticket, it will be valid for 7 days from the first day you use it. Then it becomes null and void. It really rots.

my girlfriend and I are going in May..and her dad works for US Airways... could we switch the reservation over to his name and get the discount (even though he's not going?)
