We'll be coming to LA/Disney end of August. We're looking between renting a car for part of our LA time or just using uber for entire trip (and from calculation, using uber seems to be cheaper). Regardless, we will be checking out of our Hollywood hotel on Monday Aug 28th and then transferring over to Anaheim hotel. The plan is to still do something in Hollywood before transferring (either La Brae Tar Pits or even Ripley's Museum which is walking distance to our hotel), but to be at our Anaheim hotel by say 4pm. For that Monday in Anaheim, I want time to get our Disney tickets (from Canadian discount voucher), have dinner, and then get to bed at decent time so we can make magic hour for Tuesday.

So question is...with LA traffic on a Monday (end of Aug), what time should we plan to leave Hollywood?

We Have done the trip the other way several times(kids and rock concerts), and it took at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours (north) depending on traffic. The freeways can get real bunged up between 3 and 6 (and still heavy the rest of the time). Return trip was an hour ish (late at night)

To get to the hotel by 4, you should be on the way by around 2:30, first part of the trip will be slow, but once you are in Orange, it will get slightly lighter.

Thank you. That helps. Based on this, we should probably then just do something in the area (e.g. Ripleys) before heading over to Anaheim and fit in La Brae Tar Pits for one of our other days.

I'd leave no later than 1pm. I'm just north of LAX and if I leave 2pm or later I won't make it to the parking lot until 4pm or later. I assume you'll take the 5, which can be even more unpredictable during rush hour.

By the way, it's La Brea Tar Pits. Brea is Spanish for tar. Aren't you getting mixed results searching for it incorrectly? Waze and Google Maps didn't correct it when I just tried.

Thank you. Ok...so definitely just do something simple in the area so we can head to Disney area. So it's close to a 2hr drive?

Oops...thanks for the correction. Never noticed I had been spelling it wrong. General google search does seem to come up with the correct spelling (but didn't try wave or goggle maps)

No, it's just under an hour from Hollywood to DLR is ideal conditions. An hour before a 4pm arrival is rush hour and it will not be an hour or even 90 minutes in rush hour from Hollywood to DLR. Leaving at 1pm I'd suspect you'll be there by 2:30. Leaving at 2pm you likely won't be there by 4pm. It's just how traffic works.
