Travel from AK to MK

What is the best way to travel to Animal kingdom from Magic Kingdom if you decide to do both in one day?

Thanks for the info. Thinking of doing this on Dec. 29. Will have a car; would that be quicker? I know crazy time of the year but only time my entire family will be together in over a year! Half want to do AK and the other half don't. Will have one full day at MK another day. Love the limo idea but family of 6 plus two girlfriends! Rather take the van we r renting.

You can drive, if you like.
However, if the park (or one of the parks) in your day is MK, I'd not drive that day.

The MK parking lot is not near the MK gates and requires that you take either a monorail or ferry boat from the lot to the MK gates and the same situation coming back to your car.

The resort buses and the buses to/from DHS and DAK all terminate next to the MK gates.
Easy.

Only saw part of Robo's reply before I signed out for the night. Thanks to all! It did answer my question. The bus it is. How much time should I allot for travel time?

Varies.
Figure an hour will do it, in nearly all cases.
Better to be too early than too late.

While I wouldn't ordinarily drive to MK anyway, I definitely wouldn't do it at the most crowded time of the year. Crowd levels are rated 10/10. For MK, I'd rate it an 11. Parking lots will be absolutely jammed. So, likely, will the ferries and monorail taking you from the TTC to the MK. And then there's the possibility of phased closures at MK. I'd save that hassle and just take the bus, which bypasses all of that.

I agree. Honestly, I wouldn't drive anywhere during that week if I could possibly avoid it.

Heh, thanks for all the advice! Believe me u wouldn't be going this crazy time of the year, the week after Xmas, if it wasn't the only time kids would be together in a years time and they want to go! 4 boys, 25 to 16 and two girlfriends, one of who has never been. I suggested an island, but was outvoted. Have to stay offsite cuz we bought a timeshare 20 years ago. I want to maximize MK for the girls. So I have one full day either the 27th or the 30th and was hoping to get to MK for a 7:00 reservation for morning at CP and then go to AK for FP's in afternoon. Also have 7:00 reservations for 27th and 30th. Have to choose- which one for full day? 27th or 30th?

Be forewarned: that is the busiest week of the year, and there is the possibility that MK could be closed to off-site Guests at times. It's most likely to occur late morning and early afternoon, but usually it only lasts a few hours until enough Guests leave the park to make it available again.

You should have no problem arriving at 7am, but if you leave the MK, you may not be able to re-enter later in the day.

Thanks! Now to decide MK for the 27th or the 30th. BOG reservations on 30th, just don't know if it is worth the crowds or if people want to stay up for the fireworks for 2015 preview especially if the next day is NYE.

What I might consider is driving to MK in the morning and leave the vehicle there; let the folks that want to go to AK take the bus, then bus back when they're done.
