Anyone travelled with Travelcity direct and if so how did you find the experience.
Going to WDW in Feb 2006,does anyone know how to make time pass quicker? :bounce:

Going Feb 2006 with TCD, been with them on 5 ocassions and never had a problem. :wave2:

Flying with them on saturday will let you know when we get back :)

Travelled with them Aug '05 and as they 'did exactly what it says on the tin' I booked with them again for next year.

Been with them twice before and have always been great. We were looked after so well during Hurricane Charley last year that we're travelling again with them in 2006!

Ive never travelled with them but alot of people on here have talked about having loads of problems with them. :confused3

Jen,

Not a very informed opinion then really, I dont mean to be funny, but if you havent flown with them I dont think you can pass judgement on what you havent tried.

We have flown 4 times and all without any problems, I can pass judgement. They are OK in my opinion. :)

I hardly passed judgement on them! I just pointed out that ALOT of people have said bad things about them! If you look at past threads you will see that numerous people have complained about them and the delays and service problems. You are right Ive never flown with them and after hearing the terrible problems people have had I hope I never do!

I have travelled with them several times and all but the last I have been happy. As long as things go smootly they are fine, the difficuktues arise when things go wrong.

On the last trip the flight was delayed by 24 hours on the way back, we saw a rep at the airport who put us onto a coach, and then did not seen any reps at all, we were promised a rep was on the way to the hotel to let us know what was going on, but they never showed up, no one knew what was really happened apart from though an airport represeative. The food they arranged was inedibale (and under cooked) and there was no allowance for any dietry needs or even children, if you did not drink tea coffee of milk then you were stuck with tap water and only at the set meal times. The main problem was there total lack of communication when there was a delay and a stream of other broken promises all eminating from that.

However, if all goes well, and there are no problems, they are a bargain.

I went with Tcd in August, you get what you pay for, if you want to pay more for your flight I can understand that, Tcd was o.k and would go with them again, But would not use their transfers again. It took us 2 hours to reach our hotel stopping at every hotel in international drive, and 1 1/4 hours with a smelly chemical toilet making everbody fell sick on the return journey. The flight was delayed both going and comming back, but the XL flight was fine both ways.
The money we saved meant we could stay in a better hotel for 14 days and we find the journey to and from a pain who ever we fly with.

I have flown with TCD and Virgin and as previously stated, you get what you pay for. TCD were cheap and cheerful, quite cramped and no entertainment. Kids hated it but it is a means to an end. Virgin were fab, kids happy, back seat TVs etc., but we paid about 1k more for the flights! We are planning to go out in Aug '06. We like to book flydrives and book a villa ourselves. Next year, there will be 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 'kids' who will be 18, 16, 14 and 10 when we fly. I have looked at both TCD and Virgin and the price difference for next summer is 1.5k - what would you do? Its a lot of money.........

1.5k IS a lot of money, is the flight itself worth that much to you? I think I'd personally take the money and all do discovery cove or some other expensive - but - great experience. Also try the other charters just in case they can come close to TCd prices and offer a little more comfort.

Hi Carol,

But some of the experiences of TCD on here (did a search) are really quite scarry, it does seem to go Ok when no 'hitches' but when it goes wrong - it goes very wrong. This can also be true of other airlines I know. We did Discovery Cove on our first visit and it was magic, would love to go again. I would also consider doing a stop over somewhere, never tried that before, have always flown direct, but now the kids are older, could be part of the adventure?

It is difficult, we have flown with Virgin every year and have booked to go with them next August for 3 weeks.
I have read mixed reviews on TCD but cannot really comment as we have never used them.
Personally I would say Virgin, but I agree the fly-drive prices in the summer holidays are ridiculous.

Jennie, not sure when you travelled with TCD but that was certainly not our experience last year. The entertainment was great, several up to date movies, seat back video units, free snacks and drinks (including alcoholic!). The legroom (I don't feel) was much different to any other economy seating.

Hi Sue,

It was Xmas 2001/New Year 2002 when we flew with TCD, we flew virgin in October 2002, so my experiences are quite dated! I am also going to have a look at mytravel, firstchoice and thomson - all suggestions from threads on here. Thanks Guys.

hi

we have been with tcd twice- 1st time fine there are 5 of us and now all come under adult rates so we try to get the best (cheapest) price we can find. in aug this year the flight was delayed on the way out due to a thunder storm- the queues were horrendous we had booked the guest room which was worth every penny- 1 hour into flight tcd asked for anyone who was a dr or nurse to make themselves know- 10mins later a plea for a dr or nurse- 10mins after that the call for a thermometer now surely a plane has to have this basic peice of medical kit on board- the plane landed in washington and the member of staff who had been taken ill was taken off the plane- we were told this would take 10 mins - we finally took off 4 hours later the staff refused initially to open the doors or have any aircon on the plane was stiffeling but the lack of keeping people informed was such a worry.

we always used to say that the flight was a means to an end - that we wanted to pay as little as possible but we paid £600+ each for aug and i dont honestly think i would feel inclinded to travel with them again any time soon

I would look at a tour operator that charges kids prices for those under 19. Airtours and Thomas Cook are the only ones I know but we made a substantial saving when booking with Airtours for my son who is 17.

Thanks for that, had a look on the website and these are the figures :

ADULT BASIC PRICE £659.00 2 £1318.00
CHILD BASIC PRICE £609.00 4 £2436.00
FUEL CHARGE LH £45.00 2 £90.00
FUEL CHARGE LH £45.00 4 £180.00
EXCLUSIVE ONLINE DISCOUNT £-10.00 2 £-20.00
EXCLUSIVE ONLINE DISCOUNT £-10.00 4 £-40.00 Total £3964.00

That is just for flights. When I added the dates of birth for the 2 older boys the price went up to £4064.00 as they were classed as adults even though they will be 18 and 17 when we travel.

ADULT BASIC PRICE £659.00 4 £2636.00
CHILD BASIC PRICE £609.00 2 £1218.00
FUEL CHARGE LH £45.00 4 £180.00
FUEL CHARGE LH £45.00 2 £90.00
EXCLUSIVE ONLINE DISCOUNT £-10.00 4 £-40.00
EXCLUSIVE ONLINE DISCOUNT £-10.00 2 £-20.00 Total £4064.00

TCD came out at £3.5 and Virgin £5 approx. So Airtours is in the middle, when you consider the car hire on top.

Anyone flown with them?
