Travel city direct as good as virgin ??

If you're looking at Virgin for Florida holidays keep your eye on the Virgin Megastores, you know those voucher booklets they do from time to time for CD's and DVD's? The one I got at the start of the year included a £200 discount with Virgin Holidays and they let me use it when I confirmed an online price saving me another £186! Nice!

Incidentally, my mate is going the same time as me and is travelling with TCD, so we'll compare notes when we both get back - should be interesting!

That's an excellent tip! Thanks for that! :teeth:

Quite typically I missed that one and the 15% offer they had at Easter too - just my luck!

I'll try and remember that one for future!

TCD are apparently using brand new 747s this year. Though they still wont have tvs in the back of seats, there will be a large screen tv, which IMHO is just as good. Here is the info from my brochure:

Sunshine first - 50" seat pitch, priority check in / boarding, Upgraded menus personal tv monitors, welcome aboard refreshments, age restriction no children under 3yrs, 40 kilo luggage allowance cost from £299 pp

sunshine premium - 38" seat pitch, priority check in / boarding, Upgraded menus welcome aboard refreshments,30 kilo luggage allowance, no children under 9 yrs. cost from £199 pp

sunshine upperdeck - 34" seat pitch, upgraded meal service, welcome aboard refreshments, 30 kilo luggage allowance. no children under 9 yrs. from £129 pp

I have flown to Orlando 5 times at economy, 4 with Virgin, and 1 JMC, To me the flight is not important its the holiday and accomodation. For the £1500 it would cost us to upgrade one way I could book another return flight to the USA economy with TCD. If money was no issue I would upgrade.

NEW INFO:
Just checked out the TCD site flight upgrades and its now showing "no children under 6 yrs" for sunshine premium and sunshine upper instead of the 9 yrs limit - my son will be 7 by the next time we go so that gives me another option.

Has anyobdy travelled on Travel Citys' 747 Jumbo this year. We are due to fly on it from Cardiff in August and I was wondering if anybody could tell me what it is like in terms of entertainment, comfort etc. Apparently it has been upgraded from the model they used last year.

Just wondering how a large screen TV is "just as good" as your own seat back screen ??

Surely on a cabin screen you have to watch what they put on, i.e 1 film while with 8 - 12 channels on your own seatback you have a very varied choice , including usually a skymap ??

or am I missing something ?

i think a large screen is as good as a seat back one, less chance of it not working, on two of our virgin flights one or more of our seat back tvs have been broken which left us with no entertainment

I am flying TCD sunshine premium this december and I cant wait, alot of people who come into my offfice fly tcd and love it.

and at the end of the day its just a flight

The Really Great Holiday Company (RGH) who trade as Travel City Direct (TCD) have been acquired by the Avion Group. Big changes are to take place within TCD and their flights will improve now Avion are in charge. Trust me I’m in the know. See Avion's website (aviongroup.is) for the official press release.
