Wondering if someone can tell me how far Disney is from Universal Studios? I recently saw a Great Hotel show on Portifino Bay hotel. It is an amazing hotel. I was just wondering how far it is from Disney. Is it worth staying there and traveling to WDW? Might have to plan another trip sometime. Very beautiful hotel but of course comes with a price tag. Thanks!

We had a wonderful time staying at the Portofino Bay hotel, shortly after it opened. However, I wouldn't use it as a launching point for a WDW-focused trip. Every so often, we decide to spend one vacation focused on Universal (maybe one out of six or seven), and on a vacation like that we'd perhaps consider staying out that way. For a WDW-focused trip, I recommend staying much closer to WDW.

If I remember correctly, it took us about 15-20 minutes to get from Universal to Disney. The distance isn't bad, it's the traffic.

I think all 3 Universal hotels are incredible, but I wouldn't attempt to stay there for my WDW trip. Those hotels offer great perks for Universal (front of the line access to rides), and allow pool hopping between the 3 resorts. And they are a hop skip and jump from the 2 parks and Citywalk. So I couldn't see staying there and having access to all that and getting in the car each morning for the frustrating drive to WDW (lots of traffic).

Now, if I was looking for a great place to stay a few days for a getaway, or I wanted to tack on some Universal days, then I'd stay there!

I definitely agree with the other posters. We stayed there and it's quite possibly the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in and we've stayed at plenty. We had a pool view deluxe room and it was gorgeous. The whole place just excudes charm. The perks for Universal are great, better than anything Disney doles out. The front of the line access can save you hours and hopping a water taxi to the parks is fun and convenient. You could stay there to do Disney but I don't see much sense in it......

I have to agree as well!! We do Disney trips, and we do Universal trips. While we've only ever stayed at the Royal Pacific, and it is gorgeous!!!! I did visit the Portofino......... very, very sofisticated and beautiful. I'd say if you were doing a Universal trip........ one of the hotels would be your best bet, we always get front of the line, etc...... and there is NOTHING better!!!! BUT, for the money you'd spend on Portofino......... you could join us at the Poly (LOL) ........ and be on Disney's monorail service, which can't be beat, and you'll be at Disney...........


OR, if you have the time and the means............ do what we sometimes do, split the trip............ do disney for a few days then move over and do universal for a few days!!!! It is the best of both worlds............ we do it often, and it works out great!!!!
