Travel Channel Disney Fans tidbits

Hi Dave,

I'm watching the show right now! I saw it on Sunday as well, but was hoping to catch more this time around. (We were visiting with family so I didn't get to see 100% of it. ) Your family did a great job and you all look like you had a great time. BTW, I like the idea of putting together a schedule for the family. I think I might make some up for December and laminate them. Great tips!!

Thanks -- I'm finding a lot of new things on it, too! There are little asides that we made to each other at times.

You know it's so funny, we had to wait an extra 30 minutes to get "HQ clearance" to get into Rainforest Cafe. They sent us the best presented food I've ever seen at any Rainforest. But they don't even mention it on the show! I guess the "clearance" didn't come through.

This is so funny!

:teeth:

THAT. Is so funny and so true!

We wear the ponchos because I will get one nasty rash if I walk around in wet shorts. And who wants to carry around a change of clothes or stuff to do your hair again? All I want to carry around is a room key.

I'm watching the show now, and you all did great, but the schedules you made and the book with the weather and all that made me LOL! Brilliant! I bow before the king of trip planning. And your family seemed to have a great time.

Please stick around the boards! It's good to have you here.

At the very end of the show, we're not standing where we usually stand for Wishes, it was WAY too crowded that evening. So Disney opened a gate, grabbed a couple of other families, and took us out on that grassy area on the right side of the hub.

The view was better than anywhere in the park! And we truly lost sight of the cameras. Next week, we'll be mourning that security will tackle us if we try to go back to "our spot."

That's so funny Dave. You just need to pull the old "Don't you know who I am?" line. Then a thread will be started about you just like the one about Justin Timberlake currently going on. ;)

Don't you know who I am????

Ok -- my 15-minutes is being spread pretty far, here.

I just have to laugh -- do I really come off that geeky? What's with my hair? Did you see the old picture of me with big sunglasses, short-shorts, and a mustache? What's up with that?

Hey I better be careful or I'll have to report myself.

Did you know about the DISboards before you were on the show if not, how did you get your WDW knowledge and how did you find us? Do stick around!

Years of practice. I also lurk on MANY boards, but have it honed down to a couple of sites that keep me up to date on changes and rumors. My job is what keeps me from doing this full time.

I've often thought of starting a sideline business of custom-making trip schedules for people based on their likes and dislikes. I'd even laminate them!:hyper:

I'll stick around as much as I can. My work has suffered this week, but it's been fun!

I just enjoyed the show (and your family) for the second time:D
I agree about the not so magical feeling of walking around in wet underwear after riding Kali......been there!

Good to see you mixing it up here, Dave, with the DIS folks. Hope you are enjoying the boards. Great, aren't they??

And Micca, so very true..................
......I noticed that several of the people on the show mentioned emotional bond they have with WDW...
WDW does so have that bond.

I am soo glad you posted this. I caught the last 10 minutes that last time it aired and I was so disappointed! I am glad to be able to catch this one (I have set the vcr since it is on at midnight here in Boston). I plan on watching this and feel like Hey I know that person!! LOL

Funny post about your teen boy's and the girls....LOL

This is so crazy. Is it vain to watch this again?

Another tidbit while I'm thinking about it -- the dinner a Boma was fantastic. The head chef came out and had a wonderful conversation with my wife. The food was very unique and very good. The fun part is that we got to sit and talk with many of the workers there who are actually from Africa. It's amazing who will talk to you when you have a camera crew nearby.

Also, for those of you who saw our audition video -- that was done during a real Minnesota blizzard. The kids were out of school because of it, and so it worked out perfect. What you missed was after the boys tore off their jackets to run around in their Hawaiian shirts and shorts, they called for Rebekah (our DD) and she comes running out in her swimsuit and cover-up. They then jump into a car and take off down the street and disappear into the snow. I look back at the camera and say "They'll be back when they run out of gas at the state boarder -- they do this a lot."

Erika -- The only tip I was sad you announced on TV was the target on the orange robot on Buzz Lightyear. My kids saw you give this tip and went OHHHH! I have always beat them because of that target, and now they're challenging me when we go back next week. These are secrets that parents should keep!

I watched the show tonight with my mother she thought your audtion tape was cute :) Thanks for all of the tidbits about your experience....my mother has plans to wear a poncho on Kali after seeing the show she like your wife doesn't not want Kali hair!

Congrats to you and your family Dave! Loved the show! In fact I HAD to watch it again last night... DD 3 could hear it and said "Mommy are you watching Mickey's Castle?!! I want to watch it too!!" I have her trained well as my DH says.. It makes me excited to start planning our Christmas 2005 trip ! Thanks again for your insight!

Hey Dave....as I already told Erika, great job. Loved your whole family. My dh just can not believe there are so many of us "Disney Nuts' out there. Looks like I'm in pretty good company.

So, was your special Wishes spot over by the Rose Garden? That's my favorite spot for watching. Looks like you'll be there around the same time we are. Maybe we'll run into you guys someplace...hmmm, maybe at Buzz, shooting at the orange guy!!!!

Thanks for a terrific job. I think I can fit one more viewing of the show in before we leave next week!

This is a great thread. Hubby and I caught the show last night. We consider ourselves huge fans also. Actually we're so bad that when hubby retired from the USG, he had to get a job for Disney to keep up with our addicition.

Anyway, I was just thinking, how could I get my feedback on the show to someone and then this morning....boom...your post. All and all I thought it was good, most I knew, a couple of new things, a few I disagreed with and found misleading.

I knew right away you had eaten at rainforest, because of the way the announcer said "after lunch you reentered the park..." thought that was a give away.

Not knowing you guys---when I saw the Kali segment, I said, wow, what a bunch of wooses (i.e., sissys), if you don't want to get wet, don't ride the ride. (still my opinion)

The tip from the other couple about saving money and buying a hopper pass at the EPCOT window to save money....duh, that was the dumbest thing I ever heard, if you want to save money, they should have mentioned buying tickets in advance.

And the one segment that really burned us was the family at Hoop dee do with the guys eating with their hats on. How disrepectful was that, only wish "mom" from the Prime Time had been there (I'm sure I'm not alone on this one).

Other than that, I thought the show was good and for newbies, well worth seeing.

BTW: we were approached once in the park about doing a taped segment for Disney and we declined (guess we fit the role of young empty nesters going to WDW without the family). The CMs couldn't believe we were declining. Mostly because we love Disney and secondly, being a CM family, we know too much of the dark side of Disney, and didn't want to be less than honest, not know the questions they would ask of us.

Glad you're part of our family here on the boards.:sunny:

Just wanted to say it was a great show, and you and your family looked comfortable in front of the camera.

The schedules you handed out .......... yeeeesssss! Great idea. I've always kind of kept the itinerary to a select few, because it was so hard to get everyone to agree on what to do and when.

Have fun on your next trip.

Funny, I love the Tarzan Rocks show as much as the Lion King Festival. I always recommend it. I was surprised to read others don't like it!
