Out travel agent has told us that once our disney vacation is booked, it is booked, no changes. However, I have read that if there is a promotion added after we boom that disney will adjust our price. Which is true here? I do not want to miss out on a great room rate promotion or dining package!

A travel agent who old you that certainly is not a Disney TA, or they just don't know what they're talking about. One of the perks of using a TA is that they can alter your reservation if a new discount comes out.

There are many many travel agents out there who are not familiar with Disney.

We use a TA who specializes in Disney. She keeps an eye on discounts and if something better comes out she will change our reservation to take advantage of the new prices.

You might want to look into a disney specialist travel agent if you have not booked already. If you have booked already you can keep an eye on the boards and let your TA know when a good discount comes out that may apply to you. Then she can make adjustments.

Thanks all!

I will look into another agent, our agent is pushing for a package with an airline and discounting our other requests saying they aren't cost efficient. The tips from here are invaluable !

Our travel agent actually suggested holding off on booking airfare as southwest sometimes can do it cheaper than Disney. I would definitely switch your TA! I work with Regina at Destinations in Florida. She is awesome! There are many Disney TA out there use one of them and you will be much happier! :)

The TA doesn't want you to save money because then she gets less commission. Switch TA's because they are lying to you.

Small World Vacations rebooked an already-booked trip for me when a promotion came out.

Your reservation can be changed up until 45 days before your travel date. The agent is incorrect as packages can be changed when specials come out. If you send me a pm I can give the name of an agent that routinely watches and changes packages for clients when deals become available.:)

If you do end up having to cancel your trip, make sure you log onto your My Disney Experience and make sure all your ADRs are cancelled. Our travel agent said she had cancelled ours when we had to cancel our trip a few months back, but I worried about it and discovered she hadn't cancelled a single one. So if I had not gone in to check on the App, I would have gotten charged the no show fee.

I was not happy. I really hope it was just an oversight and not a vindictive thing because I'd refused to re-book since I wasn't sure on what dates we could reschedule. I just wanted to completely cancel (it was way before 45 days out) and she kept pushing pushing to get us to just change the dates instead of cancel completely. Either way, I'll be going with someone else next time.

Oh my...was this with Destinations In Florida?

Is anyone here familiar with the travel agency "Destinations In Florida". I'm thinking about using them for my next trip in May

My December trip is booked through Regina at Destinations in Florida. She is absolutely wonderful!!! I think I probably drove her crazy at first with all the different questions and package configurations I wanted to look at, but she never said anything. I will definitely be using her again!!

I am a Travel agent that specializes in Disney Destinations and I change people's trips all the time, especially when a discount comes out. That is part of the fun...I love surprising a client and letting them know they have saved some money.

Since I've never used a TA, I'm very curious as to whether it's a good idea for me and how do you find one that specializes in WDW.

Especially interested in anyone who has knowledge of Fort Wilderness. It seems that most discounts or offers never apply to campers.....Am I wrong?
So, can a TA really help?

No, it was with another company. I really think it was just a mistake and someone being forgetful. We had a good experience with them several years ago when we used them for another trip. I just don't think I'd use them again because it worried me. I'll give it a few years and I'd probably go with them again.

Definitely use someone that is Disney specific! Two things to know:

Reservations can be transferred to a TA if moved within 30 days and if it is not paid in full.

Get a TA that knows Disney! Changing or updating a discount is basic stuff! If they don't know that, what else might they misguide you? My poor coworker had a local TA book her trip and wasn't told to make ADRs if they want a TS dinner and she was told she couldn't upgrade her free dining. Two huge alterations to a trip!

AAA always honors a new discount if it will give you a better price. I just saved $400 on the last promo for my March trip.
29 trips to Disney World and counting...next stop POFQ March 2014:thumbsup2

I'm also a TA that specializes in Disney Travel and I can tell you that whoever you are working with is not being honest with you! I am sorry you are having trouble with that person! Personally, I do absolutely everything I can to make sure my clients save money. Definitely look into using someone else! TA's can be an awesome resource for families planning Disney vacations!
