Travel Agent Questions

Hi, I have a few questions about travel agents. I spoke to one at Sears this week about booking a trip to WDW. Originally she quoted hotel, flight, and tickets for two out of Toronto at $2,800. I asked her if she could try Buffalo as I knew that it would be a lot less and she stated that she was unable to book that and we would have to do it ourselves. Anyway, she called Disney about the hotel and tickets and quoted a price.

Can someone explain how she gets paid? Is it through commission that Sears pays or will she charge me an additional price, either somewhere hidden or elsewhere? I'm now reconsidering booking the hotel and tickets with her as I have to do the flight myself and also have to book the Magical Express myself as well as I will be the one with the flight information. In addition, I have to call Disney for my ADR so I feel I am doing a lot of the work myself.

Thanks for your help with the questions! :)

Commission through the service provider - in this case, Disney.

You won't save the commission by booking yourself - Disney will keep it instead of paying it to a Travel Agent (standard procedure) but you WILL have complete control over your reservation.

And - many travel agents will book the ADRs for you (that's what I do). You may want to try another agent.

Its hard for travel agents to book your adr's...many times there may only be specific times or days available....

Unless your travel agent is planning what park you are going to be at on which day? Also, what if you want a 5pm time and their is only 8:30pm?

why can they only book out of one aiport and not another?

Ive never had an issue with getting the times I have wanted for ADRs booked though my TA. I guess I dont see the difference in them calling and getting told there is only certain times, than when I call and they tell me the same thing.

I would definatly try a different travel agency.

You should never pay any commissions or fees. Disney pays the agent. The problem with booking/not booking may have to do with Canada/US. I'm not sure because I don't do any bookings in or out of Canada.

Booking your ADR's for you is tricky unless you are very flexible with your times.

Ask your friends if they have an agent they could recommend. Maybe they know someone who knows someone who is an agent or used a good agent. There are plenty of us out there.

Good luck!:goodvibes

Use Dreams Unlimited Travel. They are Disney certified. They will actively look for deals for you. I have used their service and they go beyond the call of duty. You can also access all of your info on line so you know what is what. BTW, Dreams Unlimited owns the DIS.

I don't know about Sears and TA's, but it sounds like you need to book with a different TA - prefferable one that is a Disney specialist.

All TA's get paid by the provider as pp's have said. You should never be charged a fee for using their services.

Most companies will make your ADR's, arrange ME, book air + packages, etc. Your TA should even look for codes for you and additional discounts.

Good Luck in choosing a TA.
