Trash will now be taken every day

We are here now on a 17 night visit. We’ve stayed at BWV and AK. This thread is much ado about nothing. I agree that the purpose behind it is security. I also suspect that daily checks may satisfy some insurance requirements.

The fact is the trash collection/room check takes seconds and is unobtrusive. Staff enters, empties the trash and leaves. We are often in the room when this occurs. No one is barging in. The gentleman knocks and waits. I answer the door—just as I would in my own home. No one is rifling through my stuff. We haven’t been using the room occupied sign and the above has been our experience.

Someone said they feel as though they are being treated like a criminal. Really, if you are so easily offended, perhaps airport travel and hotel stays are not for you. There are other vacation options that provide less disturbance.

Do you or your children, if you have them, nap? If so, did they ever disturb the nap?

I do have to say, while in my own home, I don't always answer the door. So, acting like I am in my own home, won't work.

Think about the repercussions for doing that. I see them trying to enter and noticing that they cannot. Then they will knock a bunch - more disruptive than just having them enter in the first place, to both you and your neighbors. If you don't let them in after that, management and/or police get involved and an intensive search of your possessions in your room will occur, in order to see what it is you were trying to hide.
All this vs. letting them in for 45 seconds.

I have made a sign. It doesn't say anything about when I am leaving, since if I am napping I won't know when I am leaving.

I doubt if Disney has the manpower to set up appointments for room checks, plus if the purpose is to look for weapons, why would they allow guest made signs to change their inspections?

Doubtful, since other lodging chains, like Hilton, have instituted a similar policy worldwide. It is likely an insurance requirement, as Mandalay Bay is being sued for negligence for not doing more to prevent the tragedy.

Do they drag a large bag of trash from other rooms through yours as previously reported (somewhere / sometime...not sure it was this thread)?

No. They come in, grab the trash, empty it in the hall.

Someone asked if we have kids who nap. Yes. Never a disruption. I simply call down to housekeeping on the days we are headed out in the morning with plans to rest in the afternoon. I ask for trash service while I am gone. I do this in any hotel wherever I travel in the world. I have always been accommodated. As I said earlier—much ado about nothing. People are overthinking this and making it entirely too complicated.

Eta: Just got back from the parks and the trash is done. They always take out the trash if we head out in the morning. My feeling is that they really aren’t looking to disrupt my day. The whole trash thing has been a complete nonissue.

At BWV, I’ve had them haul in a large green bag, adding my trash to whatever was already in the bag. Today, for the first time, they took my trash out into the hallway and put in a large bin.

They come at all different times of the day, knock, and wait for me to answer. I don’t like it, but I guess it’s the world we live in these days.

We were interrupted napping. We didn’t hear the knock and they come right in. I called MS and the girl who answered knew nothing about the daily trash pickup so gave me to a supervisor. He said there have been kinks, they’re having a meeting next week. He said they are to look around, visually, and take the trash but have heard about the various issues.

I have not read this whole thread but wanted to add what occurred with us this week at OKW.

Anyway, when we refused to let the guy in so we could nap, the housekeeping supervisor called asking for a specific time they could come. So much for our nap.

Hopefully they smooth this system out.

DVC had always been a bit more special than a 'hotel' stay and even an average timeshare stay -- "Welcome Home!" ??

I think people are right to be upset that they are having to undergo this policy, albeit only mildly intrusive, due to concerns that guests, DVC members, are potential homicidal mass murderers. "Welcome home! We will be entering your room daily just to make sure you aren't up to any mass murder plans. Enjoy your stay!"

The fact that this is similar to the airport 'one size fits all' security theatre, is another reason to dislike it....

Everyone has their own opinions, but this is literally the last thing I would be complaining about. The idea of either not having my trash removed daily by housekeeping or worse yet having to do a trash run when I am on vacation myself is much worse. My biggest complaint about DVC is we don’t get daily towel service too. I want to feel like I am on vacation. I also have small children who nap, we have never planned to take them back to the room for a nap in the middle of a park day. They just nap in the stroller or no nap. If I were there and housekeeping needed to come in, I still don’t see the big deal. I would ask them to be quiet and I am sure they would be for the 30 seconds it would take. And as an adult, I can skip a nap if I were to ever actually take one to know that this procedure in whatever small way contributes to the safety of my family. No complaints here.

A common theme of tour guides is to hit parks at rope drop, take a long mid day break, and go back in evening.

THIS is the chief advantage to staying on property, the ease of taking a mid day pool/nap break.

If Disney has decided that interrupting the mid day break is acceptable, then they are destroying one of the chief benefits to staying on property.

This, btw, is exactly how we park commando. We are normally lounging at resort mid day.

Frankly I am glad more are not when at Disney. I love going early when the day is cool and the park is quiet, and then leaving as hordes of people come charging into the parks. Almost just as much, I love taking my refreshed children to the park in the early evening right when other families are filing out, all exhausted and yelling at each other. It means that the parks are less crowded for us nappers.
