Hi All

We are headed to WDW at the beginning of October. My family is flying from Philly but my parents will be taking Amtrak to Orlando or Kissimmee. I have read that it's better to get off at Kissimmee because it's closer to WDW and not as crowded. Your thoughts? What transport options are available from the train station to WDW. Any information is very appreciated!

Thanks
Ray

We're avid train travelers and always get off in Kissimmee....Orlando station is chaotic beyond all imagination.
Kissimmee is very small, only 10 + people board or get off...quick stop, easy baggage retrieval and is closer to WDW.

Cabs are available and many different car services will do business there. We've seen the long long line at Orlando from the train window (going home we board first in Kissimmee) standing out in the hot sun while people try to board with all their stuff one by one into the train car....nope, not for us...Kissimmee is the best bet and others say that by the time the train is in Kissimmee, those that got off in Orlando are already at WDW.....big deal...I'd rather have the comfort and ease of Kissimmee any day over the extra 20-30 minute ride to Kissimmee..

This post sums it up very well. Many others agree with this poster.

This past August, I took the train to Orlando stop. I chose that stop because I wanted to rent a car. There is a Hertz rental booth at that stop.

I've never stopped in Kissimmee so I cannot compare the differences other than the rental booth at Orlando.

I'm guessing that Kissimmee is less crazy or crowded. Less people getting on/off but we did just fine.

Can you ballpark the cost of a cab/limo etc from Kissimmee stn to WDW? We are a family of four.. Thinking of train vs. driving this time. Just to try something different ..

WE use a car service but when we first started using cabs about 5 years ago.....fares were 38-40 dollars one way...and there were van taxi's......prices have gone up.....same time period cabs from Orlando were 50+ one way......car services run 100-120.00 round trip with a 30 minute grocery stop. So if you figure in cab fare, and you use a grocery delivery service....car services are not that bad......cabs back then we awful, dirty, smoke smelling.....

We take the train from Philadelphia for all our trips to WDW. We get off at Orlando. There is a van service there when you get off the train, when we went in December 2010 it was $35 each way, they will give you a business card, you call them the day before you leave and they will meet you at your resort to take you back. We have done this many times and never had a problem.

We went to the Kissimmee station in September. We hired a car service in advance for our family of 6. Round trip it was $95 plus tip. This also included a 30 minute grocery stop. It was awesome!

I'm glad you had an awesome trip....Kissimmee is the best....really small station but no fuss...on the train in minutes and away.....and the grocery stop is also the best....real money saver on snacks, food and drinks and alot easier than a delivery service...you do the picking and pricing, get what you want and no delivery fee, tip or waiting.....

We are still deciding between orlando and kissimmee this June..what is the car service you used? There will also be 6 of us and that seems like a great price.

We actually switched to the Orlando location..I know it'll be more crowded, but we really wanted a rental car, and Kissemmee doesn't offer that :(
Thanks for the name though.

Is there a rental car place near orlando station? My daughter wants to take the train next July when we go to Disney/Universal/Discovery Cove so we really need to rent a car.
We are going to get one of the Roomette cars that has a bathroom in it- I took amtrak once to Buffalo and after 2 hours the bathrooms in the cars that everyone uses were just about unusably gross so I want my own toilet! I also don't want to sleep in a car with other people snoring etc-I need my own space! I think that room will be big enough for me and a small 11 year old right?? Has anyone here had one of those rooms??

The orlando stop has a Hertz booth right in the train station. The only rental company there. I have no complaints.

Have a trip planned in August. When we booked the train tickets we booked with the ending destination being Orlando, but I can see that Kissimee is actually closer to WDW. When I called Amtrak to ask if changing to Kissimee would affect my reservation, they told me the price would go up slightly. I left it at Orlando not wanting to give them a dime more than the $1900 we already shelled out for tickets. Does anyone know if the Kissimee stop comes before the Orlando stop, and if so couldn't I just get off the train in Kissimee if I wanted to?:wizard:

Kissimee is after the Orlando stop.

You could also just buy a separate ticket from Orlando to Kissimmee.
