I am thinking about doing 1/2 day at Huntington beach and am looking for transportation from DL. How far is it, is there another beach closer, and what kind of $$ am I looking at for a taxi or shuttle?

a guy whose business is called Tony the Limo King. He took us to Laguna Beach and back...going we went by van, returning we went by limo. It was $50 each way. I set the pick-up times and places both ways.

You can google his company and see what other packages he offers...or e-mail him and ask for his price to Huntington.

When I was looking, I found few options for beach transportation. The OC bus system goes there, but the concierge at my hotel said it would take around 2 hours each way due to the number of stops!

I checked cabs, and found that they would have been more expensive than the limo. You might check with them to enquire directly about costs to Huntington Beach.

I was really surprised that I couldn't find a company that offers regular beach transportation!

Good luck!

It would be cheaper and more efficient renting a car for the day. I just did an Expedia search and picked a random Friday in July and it came up with $30/day for a midsize at Dollar rent-a-car on Harbor Blvd, right across the street from DL. You can get to Huntington Beach by streets if you're concerned about the freeways. Should take you about 30 - 35 mins. by surface street.

BTW, I chose a Friday because they have a farmers market and craft fair every Friday at the Pier Plaza. Starts around 1:00 p.m.

for one reason or another, don't want to rent cars. Personally, I don't do credit cards of any kind. To the best of my knowledge, you can't rent a car without one. If someone here knows of car companies that will rent to you if all you carry is a debit card, it would be helpful to post the info.

My other thought is, there may be other people like me who just don't like driving strange cars...and who don't care to set themselves up as a target by driving a car with a rental sticker on it. I know CA doesn't have the type of problems with this that FL has had, but, still, as a single mom I would rather have safe transportation to and from the beach, rather than having to worry about making myself a target for crime!

1f your debit card has a visa, mastercard, etc logo on it most car rental companies will authorize a $300-$500 charge as a "deposit" but will only finalize the charge of the cost of the rental upon returning it, you can also put a cash deposit down for the above amounts, or use a check at least with enterprise & dollar
