Does anyone have an approximate idea of how long it takes to get everywhere from the Polynesian? How often do the buses come, how early do they start service and what other stops do they make? Also, is it faster to get to MK on the monorail or the boat launch? If it were just two adults headed to Boardwalk for dinner, would a cab be the fastest/easiest way? Any thoughts on transportation from Poly would be welcome!

We used the ferry a lot to MK. As long as there wasn't one pulling away as we got there, it was pretty quick. And we always used the ferry leaving MK. Monorail just takes to long. We always just walked via the path to TTC to catch the monorail to Epcot. That was pretty fast. I can't give you exact times. And the bus to MGM and AK was sometimes not so prompt.
If you are going to BW I would say to take a cab. Or if you can park hop, and want to do part of Epcot that day, you could take the monorail to Epcot, then walk through to the International Gateway where it is about an 8 minute walk to BW. But, it is a lot of walking just to get to BW. A cab won't be very expensive either.

Or take the ferry to MK and hop a bus to BW from there. You most likely won't be able to do that coming back if MK is closed. But you can still get a cab at BW for the return trip.

Transportation is one of many advantages the Polynesian has IMHO. But for dinner at Boardwalk if you won't have a car, then a cab will be fastest and easiest.

I agree about walking to the TTC to get to Epcot.

I think goofy4tink was talking about the resort launch rather than the big ferry that goes from the TTC to the MK? Anyway, the launch supposedly starts at 8:30 but it doesn't always seem to do so in our experience. As much as we love the launch, we usually take the monorail to the MK...tradition I guess. Anyway, we find it rather fast on the way to the MK. You only have one stop at the GF which is usually a short stop. THe resort monorail begins running at 7am. But the launch does go directly from the Polynesian to the MK (and then on to the GF) so if you're close to the pier, it sure is another fun way to travel .

But the ferry itself is very fast. You then have to walk from the TTC but as goofy4tink said, it is a short walk. It is crowded in the am going to the MK but if you return to the Polynesian midday and you're in one of the Eastern longhouses, the ferry can be fun too.

I know the CR and Polynesian most often share a bus to AK & MGM with the Polynesian being the last stop before the park. I don't know how often those buses run. If no one else helps you here, try asking on the transportation board. You can also walk over to the TTC and catch a park bur there too. Those buses run every 20 minutes.

The boat launch seemed faster to me. We caught a bus to the AK at 7:30. In general, we waited at least 15 minutes for the bus we wanted each time. I would take the cab to the Boardwalk. The dowtown Disney bus is the worst! Definitely cab it if you are going there.

In April we waited a long, long time (with many others) for the MGM Bus...so long in fact that we just crossed over to our car in the parking lot and drove.

We love the ferry to the MK too, but we drive to AK and MGM usually.

Thanks for all the info everyone! We're not renting a car, so I guess we're at the mercy of the bus system to get to AK and MGM but we'll definitely take a cab to DTD (since it's just DH & I doing that). I guess I'll just double my estimated travel time to AK and MGM and I should be safe. What about Epcot though? With walking to the TTC and the monorail ride, how long does it take from Poly to Epcot?

I timed the monorail ride from ttc to epcot and it was about 9 minutes. The walk from Hawaii building to the monorail entrance was maybe 10, if that much.
