we have three kids (3,5,11) and plan to get a cabin. I have heard that getting to the parks by bus is less convenient than from other resorts, is this true? Also, i have heard that if you go to the wilderness lodge you can get on their busses and its a faster ride, is this true? How far is the lodge. can you walk there or is it too far?

yes you can walk to WL.
If i were to guess maybe 1/2 -3/4 of a mile.
You can take a boat from FW to the MK ect.

The first part is partly true. To get to MGM or Epcot you have to transfer to another bus or monorail, which can be inconvenient. But there is a bus to AK from Settlement Depot at FW with no transfers required. And the boat is a quick and direct way to get to MK.

As for transferring at Wilderness Lodge, you can do that because the Crockett bus stops there on the way out of Fort Wilderness. I don't think you gain anything though, because (1) you are still transferring to another bus and (2) the Wilderness Lodge buses don't go directly to the parks. They usually stop at the Poly and Grand Floridian along the way. It's not a faster ride.

thanks for the info. It looks like MGM is the hardest to get to from this resort. I can live w/ that. We have to give up the all star unless we get 2 rooms. I have always been happy w/ the transportation there. Something tells me it will not be an issue at Fort Wilderness.

We love the transportation from FW! There are LOTS of buses and they run very frequently!

To get to MGM, just take a bus to the TTC and transfer to the MGM bus! The same thing for Downtown Disney.

For Epcot, take the bus to the TTC and transfer to the monorail.

For MK, just hop the boat.

For AK, there is a bus that goes directly there from FW.
