Our first trip to FW will be in November and I need some clarification about the buses in FW. Am I understanding correctly that there are internal buses that transport guests around the camp? There are also buses that transport you to other places on Disney property- resorts and parks. How do those 2 bus lines work? Do you pick up the buses at the same bus stop or are there different bus stops for the internal and external buses? Are the internal buses slow? Is that the reason why most people rent golf carts?

The internal buses run back and forth from the marina to the outpost. They stop at designated stops ( each loop) to pick you up or drop you off. From the outpost you catch buses to other parks or DTD or water park. From the marina you can go to the magic kingdom and wilderness lodge. There is one other location you can go from the marina and I knew it when I started typing this but now am drawing a blank. Must be bed time.:)Sorry about that.

The other boat will take you to the Contemporary Htl. Great if your doing Chef Mickeys.
The inner ( Fort )busses and outer( World ) busses all meet at the same stop up front.
I thought one park bus picks you up at the Marina stop. Don't remember wich one.
They are marked pretty clear. Some areas may take a little longer to get to than driving, but are reliable. They do get very full in the evenings when the parks close.

I don't think any resort busses pick up at the Fort. You have to go to a park to catch them, except for WL, which I believe stops at the settlement bus stop instead of the Outpost station.

The park busses work well, although some comment it takes longer on the busses than driving to a park. We never drive to the parks, but use the busses and the boats.

The internal busses are very convenient and run often...every few minutes. Three different routes, depending on where you want ot go. The yellow route goes up and down one side of the Fort. The orange on the other. Someone else will need to explain the purple route.

People rent or bring personal golf carts for internal convenience. They are used for running around the Fort...to the pool, marina, trading posts, Trails End, looping, bus stations, laundries, etc They cannot be driven to any out-of-fFort locations, including WL. They are not necessary, but are convenient and provide a lot of fun. We rented a couple of times then bought our own. You can rent from Disney or an off site locations referred to as Kenny's.

If you take the boat at the marina to The Comtemporary, you can walk or take the monorail to The Magic Kingdom. We always bring our bikes and ride rather than taking the bus. We stay in the full hook up sites. We do this just because we enjoy riding our bikes and usually site see around the loops on the way to the out post or marina. The bus service works very well and has definitely improved over the years. I'd say it's a personal preference unless you really need the golf cart because of other issues.:mickeyjum:mickeyjum:mickeyjum

Ther are 3 internal bus routes. Purple travels through the cabin areas, Orange goes down the middle of the campground and Yellow takes the road on the East side of the campground. All the buses travel between the Reception Outpost bus stop and the Settlement Depot bus stop. Example, if you see a bus with Outpost Orange on its display, then it is headed towards the Outpost bus stop.

From the Outpost, you can catch a connecting external bus to Epcot, Studios, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, and the water parks.

From the Settlement, you can catch a launch to the Magic Kingdom or a smaller boat to the Contemporary Resort or Wilderness Lodge. There are usually 2 smaller boats that run this route and they run opposite from each other. One will do FW, WL, Contemp. then back to FW; the other does FW, Contemp, WL then back to FW.

You can also catch a bus from Settlement Depot to WL.

Just a quick question on the Purple bus since we will be staying at the cabins this coming August. Would I be correct in assuming that the Purple bus makes a stop at the Meadow Trading Post/Pool area?

No, it does not. If you want to take the bus, you would have to take the Purple to Settlement or Outpost, then take the Orange to the Meadow Trading Post (which the pool is behind it over a short bridge) or you can take a Yellow and get to the pool from the back side.

Honestly, I know they are an added expense, but I would rent a golf cart if I stayed in the cabins. Or, bring your bicycles if that is possible.

I have heard that the Orange Settlement bus does cut through the cabins & stops at the Meadow, but I cannot confirm this since I have never done it myself.

The orange bus also goes through some of the cabin loops. If you are going to the Meadows areas, you hop on that one. If you are going from the cabins to the marina, you can use either purple or orange.

If you are in cabin loop 2100, it's a very easy walk to the Meadows area. It's actually not a bad walk from most of the cabins.

Unfortunately a golf cart is not in the budget and there is not enough room in the car for any bikes.

I just looked at a map of the bus routes and I see that the purple goes around a back way.

The last time I stayed at FW oh so long ago there were just two bus routes around the campground going in opposite directions (I vaguely remember the routes being called Chip and Dale although I could be wrong)

Nope, you're not wrong, they did used to be called Chip and Dale. Several years ago they became colors and the routes were redone. Regardless, it sounds like you are riding the bus or taking the car, either way you'll get there...eventually!:thumbsup2
