:confused3 I need some suggestions. My DIL and myself are taking the 4 children on a cruise, arriving the day before and trying to figure out the best/easiest way to go from MCO to port and return in October.

We are now booked for DCL transportation from MCO & return, but no hotel the day before. My questions:

Can we get 1 room for the 6 of us (children 2-11) at a hotel near the airport that offers free shuttle to and from MCO?

Is it more cost effective to rent a large van and drive ourselves to port & return?

Should we try to stay near the airport or at the port.

First trip for us and very confusing.

Thanks.

Use Priceline to bid on a 4-5 star hotel near the airport. They all have free shuttle to MCO. I think you should be able to get a room btwn $60 & $70. If your bid fails then wait the 3 days and try again. It took me a full month b-4 my bid was accepted but these hotels usually charge $150 for a walk-in. Good luck, Gregg.

Last year, a group of us stayed at Amerisuites because some of the families were large, like yours. It was very nice, clean and our room had 2 double beds and a double pull out sofa. They have a free shuttle to and from MCO unfortunately my nephew and I got in after midnight and they stopped running by then. Had to use a cab which was plain awful!! They also have free breakfast in the lobby in the morning. That was really helpful and was pretty decent!! Cereals, toast, even eggs I think. Can't really remember as it was early, hadn't had any coffee, and because of the late flight and taxi fiasco, my nephew and I didn't get to bed until after 3am.

Two years ago, our family - 5 adults, 4 kids - were going on our first DCL cruise. We decided to stay at the Hyatt in the airport the night before and have a car service take us to the port the next morning. We thought about renting a van, but no one really wanted to drive and it seemed so much easier just to have someone pick us up and drop us off. No car rental pickups, returns, etc. Though some prefer renting, it wasn't for us.

For 6 of you, I'm pretty sure it is cheaper to use a towncar service than DCL transportation. I highly recommend Sunray Transportation. You can also get to the port earlier, allowing you to get in line earlier, and on the ship earlier, if that appeals to you. Last year, our group was large enough we could hire a small bus to get to the cruise, then we all found our own way back after the cruise. I went with Sunray for my nephew and I because I have found them dependable and safe. They also provide carseats if any of the kids are that young.

If you want, you can read about my cruises and Sunray experiences on my website. Hope this helps!

Cheers!

Thanks for the replies Gregg and Jen.

G ~ when do you think I should try my hand at booking with Priceline?

J ~ did Amerisuites have a pool ~~ need to keep those children busy
~ did you book directly or through Priceline?
~ I am seriously considering cancelling our DCL transportation and having
a car service instead ~ thanks for the tip :moped:

My travel agent booked it for me. Some others booked it directly with the hotel. Don't think they had a pool but I'm not 100%. My nephew and I didn't arrive until 3am, got up at 8am, had breakfast at 8:20am and left at 9:15am. So we didn't see much except the front desk, elevator, our room, and breakfast. Sorry. We also looked into Hawthorn Suites and they had a pool. http://www.hawthornsuitesairport.com/

I really liked the car service as we were able to get in the vehicle, get out. We had a pickup of 9:15am and were to the port and in the front of the line. There is plenty to do and only one person has to wait in while the rest explore the terminal. There are tvs with Disney stuff playing, a model of the ship, and the characters will come out to say Hi, too.

Cheers!
