We have always flown into MCO so we could utilize Magical Express, but thinking we could get a much better deal through Allegiant this time. Anyone have any experience with transportation to WDW property from there? Can you arrange something like a town car? Do you prefer to rent? Taxi? Anyone have any price estimations with these services?

Hi mmbrad: Yes, my daughter usually flies via MCO on Delta, but last year she got a great flight thru allegiant and switched. She had much the same concerns you have about price, transportation, travel times. She said it took about one hour from Sanford to wdw. She researched cabs, uber, town car, limo extensively. She settled on a limo service. I can't think of the name right now, but she went with a very recommended one.
She says it was super easy to set up pick up time. The limo driver met her at the airport and she got to ride in a very nice vehicle (not a limo but a luxury car). She was worried that the limo wouldn't arrive on time to pick her up, but he was their waiting. She arranged for a pickup for return to Sanford at the end of her vacation, and had absolutely no problems with that. The cost was appx $l00.00 to 150.00 roundtrip, which she felt was not that much more than a taxi or uber.

So, I guess I wouldn't be afraid of Sanford or a limo service to and from WDW. It went without a hitch for her, and she is sold on allegiant and Sanford now with a limo service. Good luck!

We always use Delta to fly from our small town in N. Mn, but just for convenience. She had to travel 2 hours to a small airport for allegiant! something to consider.

The first time we flew into Sanford, we used Tiffany Towncar to get us to WDW, and back. It was about $200 r/t. After that, we've rented a car. The drive is really pretty easy.

We flew twice out of Sanford and have rented a car both times. It was easy and we drove on 417. We usually rent when we fly into MCO too because we like the convenience of car.

Depending on which route you take from SFB to WDW its 45-60 miles and an hour or more on the road (plus a few dollars in tolls if you use 417)

Allegiant has a shuttle that you can book, I believe it's $72 round trip per person.
It can be an OK option is you are flying solo or maybe as a couple.
It can get really expensive if you have to shuttle the whole family (family of 4 would be about $300ish with tip).

Towncar is going to run you $220-280 depending how large of a vehicle you need for a round trip (usually up to 4 passengers in Towncar, 6 in an SUV).

Uber is a possibility but timing could be an issue (due to how remote SFB is) and pricing can vary (Uber XL from SFB to WDW shows $70-95 each way = $140-190 RT). Only problem I see with using Uber for this will be if there are no drivers in the area or drivers who want to pick up a long haul fare like this.

Taxi's are plentiful and easy to catch outside the terminal but cost wise it's probably your most expensive option (you are looking at $125-140 each way = $250-280 RT)

A rental car would be our choice and can be a very reasonable option both cost and convenience wise, depending on the vehicle you want to rent and the time of year you will be travelling.
There's a couple of options here:

1) rent a vehicle for the whole time of your visit (gives you the flexibility to explore outside the Disney bubble if you want)
A Weekly rental can sometimes be as low as $100 for a mid-size - Full size vehicle, maybe $150-200/wk in high season (plus gas and tolls)

2) rent 2 one way rentals with a company that has a location on Disney property like Alamo (at CCC). One way rentals can usually be found for $25-60/day
One rental from SFB to your resort and then drop of the vehicle at the Care Care Center (Alamo rental). CCC will shuttle you back to your resort.
For your return flight, book a second one-way rental from CCC to SFB .

***note that one way rentals will be charged a full 24 hour day whether you drop off as soon as you get to WDW or keep it for the full 24 hours (book accordingly).
Use this to your advantage. You don't have to rush around to return the car right away, book the return time later in the evening or the following morning. This will give you time to do a grocery stop, maybe grab a meal offsite etc..
If your return flight is in the morning, consider picking up the vehicle the night before your departure day (up to 24 hours will be charged the same as a 1 or 2 hour rental). Alamo will pick you up from your resort and shuttle you to CCC to pick up your vehicle (call for pickup)

We have flown into Sanford many times and always rent a car. Come to think of it when we flew into MCO we rented a car too. I wouldn't be at WDW without a car unless I was only going to be there for a couple of days.

We've flown into Sanford twice and rented a car. It's an easy drive (about 1 hour), and we like having a car on property. I do not care for the Disney buses.

I am searching for this answer as well!!! We need to transport 8 people, so I'm trying to compare companies. It is proving to be a difficult task! There are many services, but the prices, ratings, and options vary so much.

rent a car at SFB, as mentioned easy to drive down 417 but it typically takes me closer to 1-1/2 hrs including gas up at kangaroo express near airport.

you need to factor in the cost of 'whatever' transportation, gas/tolls & luggage fees when comparing the savings to flying into MCO & using MDE.

another factor for our market using Allegiant is they typically only have one flight a day 3 X a week. Have had equipment delays with them 75 percent of the time but nothing over an hour. I do have fleeting concerns of being stuck if flight is cancelled, unlike using SWA which has multiple flights a day to my airport upon which i could be rescheduled.

Thank you all so much for your responses! I should have said there are 3 of us, my husband and myself and our five year old daughter. I think we are fairly easy to please, and being an Accountant, I am usually looking for least expensive option - but my Disney side also wants the most Disney time for my buck too :)

We usually fly to MCO, and exclusively use Disney transportation for the week. My husband used to travel a lot for his job (but local enough it was all by car) and loves the luxury of someone else doing the driving for the week. We also usually fly Southwest exclusively but so far their rates look really steep to me.
