Transportation from MCO to DoubleTree Universal then to WDW

I'm trying to research what is the cheapest/most convenient way to get a family of 4 (me, DH, DD8, DS4) from MCO to the Doubletree at Universal and then to the Wilderness Lodge at WDW and of course back to MCO when the trip is over. Any suggestions?

Rent a car.

I'm sure you'll find if you add up all the costs for your trip, air fare, hotels, food, park tickets, souvenirs, etc, etc, the cost of a rental car will be a very small percentage of your total cost for the convenience it provides. You will waste the better part of a day of your expensive vacation using any other means of transportation to do what you want to do, except maybe taxis, and they will likely cost you as much as the rental car.

Price out car rentals where you pick up at the airport, go to the Universal Studios area and then drive to Disney and end the rental and drop off the car there. Assuming you won't need the car after you get to Disney.

You can then use Magical Express back to the airport. Make that reservation as soon as possible but at least two days in advance of checkout.

Price a rental car with a pickup at MCO and a drop off at a location near WDW. Also price a rental car for your entire trip, pickup and drop off at MCO.

You can book a car service to take you from MCO to your Universal hotel and then to WDW. Probably $100-$125.

check out the costs for having a car parked at the Doubletree while you stay there.

if you only plan to use a car to get from mco to doubletree, it might not be worth it.

book car service for one round trip.

depending on which service you use, it could be $100 for that rt fare.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Any other suggestions besides Mears and FL Tours for car services?

Doubletree's parking charges were $14 a night so that was part of my reason for not wanting to rent a car. We are there for 3 nights and then transfer over to WDW. We don't have any plans to use a car while at WDW.

While we're at Doubletree we are hoping there are places to eat within walking distance. Any suggestions for this?
