Transportation from MCO, not ME

My ILs are flying into MCO and their flight is a bit close to our Chef Mickeys ADR. Their flight lands at 4:20 and our ADR is at 6:15. We think they will miss our ADR if they attempt to take ME.

In other threads I have read about hiring a town car, what companies have good reputations?

Where are they staying? With a town car, they'll need to collect their own luggage and then take it to their resort. I don't think a town car will save enough time.

It might be cheaper for them to take ME to their resort, and then take a cab from the resort to the Contemporary.

ME shouldn't take more than 90 minutes, which would get them to the resort by 5:50, and a cab should easily get you anywhere on property in 20 minutes.

And that 90 minutes for ME is a worst case scenario. It normally takes me closer to 60.

We are staying in a two bedroom villa at OKW.

We will have rental. Ideally they could get to OKW and ride with us to CM, however I have nicely informed them that we will go to our ADR with or without them in attendance.

How long from OKW to contemporary resort via car, not distranportation.

And I just realized I should have posted on transportation board, my apologies.

They could rent a car and drive themselves. I suppose you already thought of that and decided against it, though, huh?

The only way they're really going to save a significant amount of time is if they take a town car or cab directly from MCO to the CR. Figure up to 15 minutes from plane to baggage claim, another 20 minutes at baggage claim and a 30 minute trip to the CR and they should be able to get there by 5:45 if not before. Any of those times could be more or less depending on a variety of factors and the biggest risk is that their plane gets in late. Of course with this plan their bags will have to come to the CR with them and be checked during dinner, then you can drive all of the people and bags back to OKW after.

If they use DME and the luggage transfer service, a town car or a cab to OKW first, then they will get there withing about 60-90 minutes in most circumstances, which could make it tough to get to CR in time for the ADR. The issue is that most (or all) of the time savings you get on the actual drive to WDW with a cab or town car vs. DME is eaten up by the extra time you have to spend at baggage claim.

FWIW, one-way town car service from MCO to WDW is about $60 plus tip. A cab will run a bit less.

Ok, I'm going to get flamed for posting this

Have them make ME reservations, and tag their bags with the DME yellow resort tags.

Then have them get a cab from the airport to the CR. They won't have to mess with bag check, their bags will get to the room, and they'll get to CM in time.

Why would you get flamed for that? I'm assuming as registered resort guests they are entitled to the ME service. So the bags use it and they spend money out of pocket for the cab. Big whoop! Unless there is some sort of security regulation that prohibits this behavior. Are you always on the same bus as your luggage? What if the airline misplaces your luggage and it arrives after you, won't ME still pick it up and bring it to you?

I've never used this service, so forgive my inane questions! :rotfl:

Disney does not want you to do this and the DME rules specifically don't permit booking luggage-only transfers. However, Disney's agreement with the airport apparently requires them to collect and transport any bag with a DME luggage tag, so there's really no way for them to enforce the rule if that's the case.

As a result, this probably will work. If there is any problem with the airline delivering their bags, however, if your ILs don't check in and ride the bus they likely will have to fix it themselves (once they figure out that there is a problem, which could be a while if they are waiting for DME to deliver bags that never arrived at the airport) instead of DME doing the leg work.

I think it's doable, but as others say, they may need a cab from OKW to the Contemporary.

It is possible to get out of the airport in less than 30 minutes; last time we flew in, we had a rental and we had luggage collected, rental car obtained, and were driving away in a half hour from stepping off the plane (and that includes the restroom stop once off the bird).

If they went from baggage claim to the taxi stand, grabbed a cab, they could go straight to OKW, which would take 20-30 minutes or so. Therefore, figure it's 5:30 (assuming they don't have to wait a long time for room keys or somebody waits to let them in). That's 45 minutes to get over to the Contemporary, which would best be done with either taking that same cab directly or just grabbing a bus to the MK and walking over (the walk from the bus to the monorail is probably as long as from the bus stop to the CR).

It's very doable, but there's really no time to waste.
