Transportation from Houston to Galveston

Are you going to spend the day in Galveston or Houston? (I used to live in Houston and cruised out of Galveston so just curious!)

We don't get in until around 11pm on November 19th. We are on the November 20-27 cruise. I know we will be tired but we decided to drive to galveston and stay there that night. I figured traffic should be pretty light at midnight. I looked into one way rentals but with all the charges it was much cheaper to get a round trip and just return it to the airport. When are you cruising and how far out did you get that rate?

We are on the November 20th cruise. I just got that rate last week and it is actually a few bucks cheaper now so I need to adjust the rate. I have a lot if luck using the website www.carrentalsavers.com because it puts in all the discount codes that it knows. Hope that helps!

HOU is a lot cheaper than IAH. They have some crazy taxes on rental cars out of IAH. I did find a budget in Humble that is a 20.00 cab ride from IAH that I can get a car rental from for 238.00 for 9 days through Costco. IAH is 550.00. I'll keep checking I'm sure the prices will drop. The first week of Dec is one of the slowest travel weeks of the year so there should be some deals. Thanks for the tip on free parking at hotels in Galveston that helps a lot.

Here is a link that lists the hotels that have free parking. It doesn't list Harbor House but when I called them they said they would allow you to park at their sister hotel (can't remember the name right now) for free.

Thanks I think I'm going to book the Hilton the night before and after the cruise. The car rental prices may be absurd, but I'm liking the off season hotel prices.
