Okay--not a WDW related question, but I am hoping my fellow dissers from across the pond will be able to help me out.

DH is going to England next month to visit his sister who is having a difficult time. The sister lives in Oxford. She says that Heathrow is the more convenient airport. However, the flights are much cheaper to Gatwick. What my DH would like to know is if there is a form of public transportation that will take him from Gatwick to Heathrow--or vicinity--or even all the way to Oxford. His sister does not seem to understand that DH's trip is a large expense to our family and she says things like--"that is why you pay extra to fly into Heathrow--for the convenience" and "just hire a driver to pick you up at Gatwick". She does not seem to understand the need to cut costs. I think she has said that she may be able to pick DH up at Heathrow, but will not travel all the way to Gatwick to pick him up!

Anyway, What is the most economical way to get from one airport to the other, and, assuming that the sister will not even come to Heathrow to pick him up, what is the most economical way to get from Gatwick to Oxford? Luggage will not be a major factor--I am sure DH will travel with one wheeled suitcase.

Thank you for your help!

Is there not a train which goes from Gatwick through to Oxford? I am sure that the west coast does?

There is a direct connection!

The easiest thing may be to get the train from Gatwick to Reading and be collected from Reading - it's only about a 40 minute drive from Oxford. Alternatively, you can get the train to Oxford but you may have to change at Reading.

If people are coming to me then Gatwick is easier because we're that side of London :teeth: (My problem is that going to Canada all the flights seem to go from LHR).

train to Oxford via Reading sounds best to me - you don't want to mess aorund with tubes with luggage! :earseek:

National Express go direct from Gatwick to Oxford, journey time is listed as bewteen 2 to two and three quarter hours, this is by coach, guess the times are different depending on if weekday or weekend.

Just done a fare check and its about £28 for a round trip ticket, so thats about $48.

You might want to check out Zoom Airlines, they fly from Gatwick. We used them for our Toronto trip a few weeks ago and had no complaints at all, very comfortable, nice food, excellent service. :)

Thanks LeCras. Good tip - er... how long have they been going? (i.e. not likely to go bust are they?) Good £1000 cheaper than Air Canada! :goodvibes
