Transportation from FW - Tips?

Hi, everyone!

Our family (myself, DH, 5 year old daughter, & 3 year old son) will be at WDW from 5/22 - 5/28. We're staying at a FW cabin & have 7 day MYW tickets w/ the park hopper & dining options.

I've heard all kinds of things regarding the transportation at FW. (In fact, DH was kind of leery of booking there, but the area looked so fun . . .)

I know we can take a boat to the MK & that buses go to the other parks. However, I don't want to spend all our time waiting on buses. Is it better to take a boat to the MK each day & then switch over there? We will have our mini-van w/ us - Is it better to drive to the other parks?

Because we're not sure about the transportation at FW, I've tried to schedule things so we're not doing too much park hopping (but we have the option if we need to.)

We have young children, so on our MGM & AK days, I had hoped to go back to the cabin in the afternoon for naps. However on our MGM day, I have a 4:30 pm PS Fantasmic Dinner Pckg, & on our AK day, I have a 5:00 pm Boma PS. Will there be time to leave the parks at lunch, go back to the FW cabin for naps, & then get back to the parks in time for our PS's?

Suggestions? Advice?

Thanks!!! :earsboy:

I wouldn't worry about the transportation within Fort Wilderness. The internal buses run on fixed schedules every 10 minutes. Once on the bus, it's typically less than a 5 minute ride to the Settlement (Bus to Studios, or boat to MK) or the Outpost (bus to DTD, AK, or Epcot)

I am not sure about the 10 minutes.. most of the time it was good.. but one day we were waiting at the front for the purple bus to get back to our cabin, 3 orange and 2 yellow came by and we ended up walking just as we got back to our cabin (loop 2300) the purple came by with another one on its tail. BUT that was the only day that happened, so I really should not complain. I would use the bus system again.

WE preferred to drive to the other parks. Actually only Epcot was open when we stayed at the FW. ;) But I would still drive if we stayed there again. It was a fun place to stay.

Whatever you do, don't go to MK to transfer as you would need to then go from MK to TTC to catch the buses to AK and MGM or the monorail to Epcot.
