What's your honest opinion about the transportation system from the Fort Wilderness cabins? We're a family of 5 and FW is one of our options. Has anyone had to get to the CCC from there and how easy/hard was it? We're only renting a car for the second half of our trip. Thanks!

I've got quite a soft spot for FW. After a number of trips, I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience with transportation. It is not, of course, going to be as fast as going from some other resorts to certain destinations. If occassional waits or a slower pace will ruin your mood, I might think twice. You can't beat the atmosphere and extra space, though. We have rented golf carts, walked, and taken buses and boats (even back when you had to take a bus to the TTC to go anywhere) without ever feeling compelled to drive.

I have to ask, though, what does CCC stand for? I've racked my brain. It's probably really obvious and I'll feel silly later, but, right now, I haven't a clue.

Transporation is not fast, but it your vacation slow down and enjoy...
Each loop has it own bus, take a bus to the front of the campgroud and you can catch a bus to every park, downtown disney, blizzard beach and TL
(except MGM you catch that bus in the back of the campground....) You can catch a boat at the back of the campground to MK, or go over to Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary to just look around.
you can alway ride the boat to magic Kingdom and hop on a monarail and go to Epcot, or go Hotel hopping on the monarail always nice to do at night...

go to the contemporary on the 4th floor there is a deck where you can watch the fireworks for the magic kingdom also.

use disney's transportation and you do not have to pay parking for look for your car when you are dead tied, just hop on a bus and they will get you back while you rest a minute...

Have a great time

If you are renting a car from the CCC (Car Care Center), then Alamo/National will pick you up in a van at Ft. Wilderness (probably from the Outpost). So it is EASY to get to the CCC.

As an on-site guest (yes, even camping in a tent) you have the same privleges that all on-site guests do. That includes free parking at the theme parks. They give you something to show the attendants at the parking lot toll booths and in you go.

Regardless of where we stay onsite, I always have prefered taking our rental car. It's tons faster, you ALWAYS have your own seat (think of crowded busses and monorail cars), the only whiny tired people you have to deal with are your own family :lmao:, and, did I mention, it's FASTER?! ;)

Regarding the CCC - Last time I checked (quite a few years ago) they would pick you up and bring you there. Check this out before you go to long lengths (or spend any money) to get to the rental location.

I agree with AllyGirl, we use Disney transportation for everything and never have a problem. However, we know to take our patience and not get in a huge hurry. We're kinda that way anyhow - we're pretty laid back and we just don't get in a hurry on vacation. But if waiting for a bus/boat/monorail is gonna stress you out - don't do it.

We've had friends rent a car before and the rental company picked them up at the outpost.

Happy Camping!!!

48 days, 1 hour, and 41 minutes til we're back at the Fort and Star Wars Weekend. :woohoo:

Thanks everyone. We've stayed on site the last 6 trips and plan to do so again. Usually we travel as a group of 6 so we just booked two hotel rooms. This year we're only a group of 5 and we'd all like to stay in one room so I thought that Fort Wilderness would be an option we hadn't explored before. We'll be using ME from the airport but must rent a car for 5 days to go to that "other park" and then back to Disney. My main concern with FW was the transportation. We've always used Disney transportation even when we've rented a car for our whole stay...I agree...it's a lot easier! Everyone has different opinions but I just wanted some candid respones from those that have stayed at FW. Thanks again!

We had stayed there 3 times, both in the camping loops and in the cabin loop. We have never had a bad time with transportation. :sunny: The buses normally run every 15 min. The bus stops are clearly marked with what bus you need to take to get to where you are going. Also, the buses are all labelled with where they are going. :thumbsup2

I have to agree with most of the posters, we love Disney transportation. It is so nice to park the car and not worry about parking and the rush at the end of the day. You do have to plan ahead and be patient;but we go on vacation to relax, so that is not an issue. Occasionally we will drive to another resort, or to Downtown Disney, but it is not a necessity. Have fun!!

Is there a site/link that explains the Disney transportation? (what buses go to what locations); what color buses to use? etc?

I have mixed reviews of transportation at FW. We love to let Disney do the driving while on vacation. I have a special needs DD who uses a WC, which complicates the busing issue. Most times we NEVER have and problem , we do use a golf cart to go to the buses at the outpost (which makes things much faster)and to the marina. The boat to MK is wonderful always comes quickly and have never had a problem (other then rude guest ;) But we have some less then pleasent drivers over our Christmas stay. He was just to lazy to put down the lift and told us we would have to wait for the next bus. There must have been a problem because the next bus was over a 30 min wait. When it got there many people were waiting to go to EPCOT. It was really hard to load her chair because everyone pushed up to the curb. The driver had a really hard time to get the people to move and it was a really long wait so people were actually angry at us ( because they felt it was our falt that they had to wait)On our July trip I think we will drive a little more often. A though my DS 10 thinks that the buses a totaly part of the FUN!
