We are renting a 6 bdr house about 5 miles from Disney for our BIG family. We are spending a few days in Disney. Would like to know if we can use any transportation from Downtown Disney to the parks or to the transportation center and what is the cost?

There is no transportation from DTD to any of the parks, also the Disney buses do not start running to resorts till later in the morning.

Your best bet is just paying to park at the park you are going to for the day. Parking is $15/day. There is not transportation from Downtown Disney to the parks.

Easy park access is one of the perks of staying onsite. You will have to either pay to park each day (but remember to hold onto that first parking receipt and you can show it to other park attendants if you park hop and park for free that same day) or walk over to SSR and take their bus to a park. But that's a lot of walking just to avoid paying $15.

Quite a few years ago Disney caught onto the fact that people were parking at DTD to avoid paying the park parking fees. People that were wanting to park at DTD to actually shop or eat had trouble finding parking spaces. To stop that practice, Disney did away with the DTD-park buses. Now the buses at DTD only go to the resorts. You would have to catch a bus to a resort, then another bus to whichever park you wanted to go to and same thing in reverse to get home (catch a bus to any resort, then catch a bus to DTD from that resort). or as Goof said, walk from DTD over to Saratoga Springs and catch a park bus from there. However that would be a long walk to save $15.00 (especially coming back at night after a long, tiring day in the parks), plus it really isn't fair to the people paying to stay there at Saratoga Springs for a BIG family to take up that many seats on their bus. I know there have been quite a few complaints from Saratoga Springs guests about that very practice. If you decide to take a bus to another resort, another thing is that buses from the resorts to DTD don't even get started until later in the morning, so there is no way you could possible make park openings doing this, plus it would take well over an hour between waiting for a bus to a resort, then waiting for another bus from that resort to whichever park you wanted to go to. It'd be alot easier and more convenient to just pay the parking fee at the parks.

Using Disney transportation is free though whether you are a resort guest or not. No way would I take a couple hours out of my day and ride on overpacked Disney buses though, when I had a private car that could get me directly to the parks. I'd rather just drive, getting to the parks much quicker, pay to park, and then be able to quickly get to my nice quiet car and quickly get home at the end of a long, hot day. Just FYI: if one of you have an annual pass, parking is free at the parks anyway.

Agree with all of the above. Its just not worth the hassle; pay the parking.

And do note aubriee's comment: if one of you has an annual pass, parking is free. Since you're there only "a few days", it probably doesn't make sense, unless you're doing a lot of full service on-site dining, in which case Tables in Wonderland could save you a fortune...but that's another topic.
