I posted this in the California boards but thought someone here might be able to help as well.

We decided to fly into BUR for our trip to Knott's Berry Farm because we were flying with points and it was cheaper. Being clueless, I never considered how much it would cost in transportation expenses to get there! RT on SuperShuttle is showing around $200 and the rest of the companies I found are much higher. Does anyone have any transportation company suggestions for a family of 4 (adults and teens) with 4 pieces of luggage?

I have never Uber-ed before (not sure why it scares me so much). Any experience with this? I downloaded the app but I can't find a way to pre-schedule and I also can't see the fare ahead of time?

P.S. We were also hoping to go to Huntington Beach for a day from our Knott's hotel. Will also need transportation for that. Any help or suggestions are VERY APPRECIATED.

When you checked fares with SuperShuttle, did you enter a hotel or just a location? If you go to a hotel, the fare is usually much cheaper. I tried BUR to Knott's Berry Farm Hotel and the fare was $57 pp each way, without a discount. If you google, you can find discount codes. That's still a hefty price, though.

You can goggle 'uber fare estimator' to see what it would cost with them. They, too, have coupon codes and a really good one if it's your first trip...$22 off! I am not sure what the current code is for that but you can google it; we used the code feeling22. We love Uber and use it all the time now since trying it out at Disneyland last spring. If you have a larger group/lots of luggage you will need to use Uber XL. When I checked BUR to Knott's just now it gave an estimate of $32-43 for Uber X (regular size car) and $56-75 for Uber XL (larger vehicle). That's for your whole party, not per person, so a big savings over SuperShuttle. You might also check and see what it would cost for a taxi if you're hesitant about using Uber. They have vans to take parties that are larger and the cost is still the same as a taxi car.

I once made the mistake of booking flights into Ontario to go to Disneyland because the flights were cheaper. I quickly discovered that the cost and time getting to DL more than ate up the savings on the flights!

Good luck!

How many days are you traveling? Is renting a car not an option? I'm sure you could find one for under $30 a day (try Priceline). The lighter you pack (think one suitcase for adults, one for kids) the smaller/ cheaper the car you can get.

I've been able to snag cars at $10 a day with coupons. You'll probably use a half a tank of gas round-trip from BUR to Buena Park so that's another $20. And not sure if there's a parking fee at Knotts. Might be nice to have your own car though to get to the beach. HB is not but a 10-15 minute drive from BP.

My daughter and I just did a long weekend in LA without a car. Based on that experience we will not use Super Shuttle in the future as it saved us no money and was way less convenient than Uber of Lyft.

Lyft was offering 10 $5 discounts. This made our short trips really, really inexpensive. I got a $20 code from a driver (uberburpsong) that I used for a longer jaunt. It worked really well for us.

Funny, I'd MUCH RATHER fly into ONT than LAX - they're the exact same distance but ONT is ALWAYS the quickest option in terms of it being a smaller airport (less airport traffic) and less traffic on the freeways. Obviously SNA is the best option but I don't find it to be the cheapest. LGB is another option. I'd choose it over any of the four! Small, close and quick! I guess it depends on where you're flying from.

take the train. The train station is right across the street from the airport, you can walk to it. I only ever take the train to burbank airport. Take it to the anaheim station and from there do a taxi/uber etc to knotts. It'll cost you around $70 for four people total for the train. It's an easy ride.

There is actually a stop in Buena Park not far from the park.

Thanks for all of the great advice. Unfortunately a rental car is out as neither my husband or myself are comfortable driving in heavy traffic. We are staying at Holiday Inn Buena Park-near Knotts. I did put in the hotel address and rates show $72-$95 from BUR airport with UBER XL. (Even if we could get it down to 3 suitcases I think we would need an XL.) Is there a chance it could be a lot more than the estimate? Is there anyway to set everthing up before we leave?

There will also be a $3 additional fee for Uber having to park at the airport. Curbside service is not allowed. Dropping off won't be a problem. I can't see it being much more than what the estimate is.

I usually fly SW down from Sacramento, so SNA is the same price (usually) as LAX for me now and I generally use points. I almost never fly into LAX! I agree on Long Beach, but they used to cost a lot more in transportation costs to the park. With Uber and taxi fares now giving you options, it's about the same so sometimes I do that. Unfortunately, SW doesn't fly into LGB but JetBlue is a good alternative with some nice low fares. The only problem is they have very few options (like 1 or 2/day) from Sacramento and I'm hooked on SW's change/cancellation policy!

I redid the estimate with your hotel and you're right, the cost for Uber XL was estimated at $68-90 from BUR to Holiday Inn. Remember, though, that you get $22 off your first ride; my daughter and I each downloaded the app so we used my discount one way and hers the other which saved us $44. You could do that with your dh and the cost would be $46-68 each way. I don't know anything about the train but you'd still need uber or taxi from the station, so I just wanted to remind you about the discount. If it's just the two of you and you have 3 suitcases you could probably go with the regular Uber. I read that they are often Prius cars so figure something that size.

Southwest now flys into Long Beach ;) (Not sure from where but definitely OAK or SFO since my brother just flew from the Bay)

I used the regular Lyft for our family of 4 and 4 suitcases. It was tight but worked. We had one larger suitcase and 3 smaller ones. The driver had a Prius.

Yes it can be more than the estimate. I'd contact Uber to see if they allow surge pricing for BUR pick-ups.

Great idea! Will definately download app for dh as well. Thanks!!
