Transportation from airport to Universal...Best way?

The taxi/uber combination is probably cheaper at most times. But I like the confirmed nature of a private car service (I know that I will have a ride when I want/need it).

Also, to me, there is something slightly special about being met a baggage claim, having help getting my luggage and then being whisked out the door to the waiting vehicle. It's a nice way to ease into vacation mode.

Our favorite way is to hire a towncar/Suburban/limo from quicksilver. We have used them x5 and have always had great service and promptness! A towncar, I think is around $120.00, cheaper than some shuttles.

I did not like them at all. Beat up worn out cars, trunk was so stained I didn't want to put my new luggage in it. Second driver thought the gas pedal was an on-off switch. Maybe they have turned around since 2014 but I won't recommend them.

Doing a very last minute trip to Universal in a few weeks. Travel Agent is quoting us $140 for transportation from MCO to the Universal Resorts. I'm assuming that is both ways for 3 people one way and 4 people on the way home. I have an email into her to find out exactly what transportation it is (shuttle, private etc.)

In the meantime, I figured I'd get the info for other methods, just in case. Would it be possilbe to get the website or contact info for:
  • Super Shuttle
  • Tony H
And for those of you that took an Uber or UberX, can you give an approximate cost?

(I haven't navigated the boards in a loooong time. Love this resource. Forgive me if these are duplicate questions I've been searching and reading and may have missed it. Thank you for any help you can give :-)

We used Quicksilver last summer for a mutlti-leg trip to Port Canaveral and Universal, and they were nothing but professional, safe, and prompt. I'd recommend them. The nice thing about getting a car service is that most make a pit stop at a grocery store, which is really nice!

UberX, if you do the Hyatt work around, cost is $35 to Cabana Bay. It cost us $16 on the return. So, $51 round trip. I get having someone waiting for you but that's a big savings.
If you take the Uber Black or Select that requires no work around, it's about $55-60. You're allowed to take the cheaper UberX to the airport. Just some taxi monopoly stuff at play to discourage getting one at the airport.

i just called Tony and he told me to give out his phone number for those that want to book him or discuss his services.

He does not have a website.

before he went private, you could pull up an old website when he was with set up as a taxi service with a company.

i could not pull that up so i assume it is gone at this point.

his phone number is
407 406 9093

Another vote for Tony Hinds! He was great in December to drive us from our Disney resort to Royal Pacific and then to MCO. Definitely planning to use him for our cruise next year!

We took an Uber from an airport hotel to Universal and back to the same hotel. We stayed at this hotel the night before we flew home. We asked if we could take a shuttle from the airport to their hotel if we were not staying there for a few more days. They were totally fine with it.

I took macraven's advice and have used Tony for our last two trips and have him booked for our upcoming trip. He charges $100 round trip (and I tip $10 ach way). He meets us at the escalators, helps us with our bags, and stops at Publix for no extra charge. He is so nice and engaging - he starts our vacation right!

I've used Tony twice now (and got to meet the man himself on our second trip) and his service can't be beat. Even through it's a little more than a shared shuttle (depending on the number of people in your party), it's TOTALLY worth it. Both times we did a quick grocery store/liquor store stop, which was super convenient.

I used the Universal shuttle once and will NEVER use it again. Long story short, the shuttle was over an hour late picking me up (and only came after 2 increasingly panicked phone calls to the company) and by the time it arrived, I had about 45 minutes before my flight was scheduled to board. A heroic shuttle driver, curbside luggage check-in and TSA pre-check are the ONLY reasons that I made my flight that night. I called both Universal and the shuttle company (which contracts with Universal) and neither one seemed particularly concerned by my experience. I finally got my money back (which wasn't the point), but I lost all faith in their reliability. I know that others have had good luck with the shuttles, but it was one strike and you're out in my case.

Sounds a lot like our experience except our issue was when we arrived. They were 45 minutes late, we kept calling, they kept saying they were "5-7 minutes away", which was obviously completely untrue. And no one seemed to care much at all about how unhappy we were.

@theSurlyMermaid - Yep, same script here! And the lack of concern from either Universal (who I purchased the transfers through) or SuperShuttle when I got home was the most troubling part. Mistakes happen - I get that - but I never did get a sincere "I'm sorry, that never should have happened," which was actually what I was looking for.

We just used Tony as well. And as usual, he was awesome.
MCO-RPR RPR-Port hotel Port Canaveral-RPR and RPR-MCO
He has booster seats, stopped at Whole Foods for us and as always, meets you in terminal with a sign.
He's a pro.

Another vote for Tony. I was so worried about using a "stranger" but he was awesome. Friendly, reasonable and prompt. Would absolutely recommend him!!

Tony Hinds' service is the best. From our 4 trips with Tony, he has personally drove at least one of the two legs (MCO to USO and back). For the legs that Tony didn't drive us, we've had the same driver (I'm embarrassed to say I can't recall his name right now). Both drivers have been fantastic. It's everything I want in a transportation service: safe driving, accommodating for a quick stop at grocery store, polite, personable, and on time. Perfect! Totally worth $100 round trip for me. An example of excellent service from Tony is when we were there last fall for HHN. A hurricane was rolling in on our departure day, so he texted me to let me know he recommended we move our pick up a few hours to get us checked in MCO before people started fleeing the area. I accepted and he got us to the airport before the interstate and airport got jacked up. Vacations are all about relaxing and being stress-free. Knowing I have stress-free transportation is a great feeling. I already booked him for our HHN trip this fall. Heck, if I knew Tony was flying in to Nashville, I'd volunteer to pick him up at the airport and take him to his hotel to show my appreciation for his great service.

Jumping in here - I'm starting my trip at UOR and moving to our DVC after a few days. That said, I only need a one-way trip from the airport to HRH. Uber seems like the best solution for a solo traveler, no?
